Memories of jumping on a 3x4CEP with an MLV afront at Bromley South on a day out to Margate... My late father was one of the last signalmen working the old Bickley signalbox before Chislehurst took over, he also worked Beckenham Junc and Shortlands more modern boxes back in the 70's, occasionally he would Chislehurst but more often found in Swanley, Farningham Road and his book signature was last for Longfield, Sole St and Cuxton Down (intermediate box between Sole St and Rochester) when Meopham power box displaced a lot of small boxes before moving up a grade to Cuxton, Hoo and Sittingbourne relief bases and he used to spend hours moaning about having to trudge along to unlock the naval docks line for a nuke train if it was raining. Only boxes he never worked were Meopham or Dartford power boxes lol
Grunmman F-4 avion embarado en Portaaviones en la segunda guerra. Lucho en el Pacífico contra los zero japoneses hasta la llegada del Grunmman F-6-F " Gato del infierno " .
The FM-2 is not a "Grumman" If it was a "Grumman" it'd be an F4F. The "M" in FM-2 implicitly means "not Grumman" because it means "built by General Motors." The 2nd "F" in F4F means "built by Grumman." The US Navy aircraft designation & identification system is predicated on "builder" not designer. Grumman designed the Wildcat, but it did not build the FM-2 and there is no mention of "Grumman" on its manufacturer's data tag.
Hi thanks for the info. This plane was listed on The VE Day at Duxford as the Grumman FM2 Wildcat the website link is here www.iwm.org.uk/airshows/events/may-flying-day-one
It is rumoured that there's steam locomotive still in that building as that used to be where the steams used to go under maintenance not been used in decades but still a nice rumour :)
I’d think you will Find the Duxford based Wildcat is The FM-2 variant Built by the Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors, the FM-2 Wildcat essentially is an improved version of the famous Grumman F4F-4. Recognized by its taller fin than the F4F, the FM-2 was also modified to include an improved power plant, increased ammunition capacity by reducing its armament from six .50-inch machine guns to four, and improved directional stability with a modified fin. This aircraft is an example of the 18,000 Grumman aircraft (TBM and FM-1/2) produced under license by Eastern Aircraft Division.
JUST SO YOU KNOW: There is no such thing as a "Grumman FM-2 Wildcat" . The Wildcat produced by Grumman was the F4F Wildcat. General Motors built the plane under license from Grumman, and the GM Wildcats were designated "General Motors FM-2 Wildcat". Aviation buffs are picky (read "anal") about that stuff.
