Ravi took hold off her and carved a way through the crowd to the front and stood her next to Athers. Pole position. A gentleman in a world where it is so easy to just ignore the fans.
Watching this again after 40 years brings back the sick feeling in the gut of knowing that your team is nowhere near good enough to compete. As an enthusiastic Oz supporter, it was hard watching the Windies pulverise mediocrity. Then again,the big 3 had retired, the wheel had turned turned, and we simply couldn't compete. 10 years later,the wheel turned again, and since then the Windies haven't had a look in. Brilliant piece. Back in 1999 at Uni, I answered a question for my essay... What is wrong with English cricket? Did my research, and my conclusion was an Australian type state system built around the 6 Test grounds... Similar to The Hundred franchise. The counties would still exist, but as a feeder to the franchises above them.
