I use i_fish BG-1, 1 gram with the #12 size hook for those LarvaZ's. Also cut off the eyes and Loctite super glue (black center of the bottle / gel - it's waterproof) to the jig head. Only 1 SMALL drop. They look REALLY good that way and I've been killing Bluegill and Red Ears all summer on that jig and lure combo. ...Nice video! Definitely gotta have the right jig heads. I also use some Eagle Claw Ball Head, red hook, 1/32 oz. for some of those lures.
That does work but I find it a bit of a hassle. Just one more thing to have to bring with you, etc. Plus with some jig heads you have to cut off the keeper or they will not work well with Elaztech. But the super glue approach definitely works.
I like my plastic to be 3inch or smaller the YUM 3" Dinger and the Z-Men TRD Junebug because the water is always dirty water never able to see 4 inch in the water. Rio grande valley N.M. nice video
That ZMan Micro Worm looks like it would be awesome. I have been fishing the ZMan LarvaZ with much success this summer. I had some I bought when they first came out, but like you on your initial test video, the jig heads I had just were too big. About 4 months ago I found a RU-vid channel called i_fish. He also makes his own jig heads. They are modeled after the Japanese style jig heads but easily ordered and very reasonably priced. Honestly, you're most likely NOT going to like them because they don't have a hook keeper, and you do need to use super glue for maximum success. I use them, with the little hook "Micro Clips" he also sells. For me, this was a game changer. The hooks are very sharp, don't get dull, and are small enough that I started catching a lot more fish because I can cast them further than the Trout Magnet hooks. My biggest success has been with the ZMan LarvaZ. I trimmed the eyes off and super glued them with only 1 small drop of glue to the jig head. (Best glue is Locktite with the black center of the bottle. It's waterproof.) They have proven to be the best lure for me this summer. I use the green pumpkin, red and even the pink lures. Most of my tackle work is between 11pm and 2am after the family goes to bed, and I'm retired, so I can afford the time to do this stuff now. Three years ago, maybe not. I stumbled on your channel today while looking to see how people fished the LarvaZ. I wasn't really knocked out by the lure when I first got it, but it has been SO productive for me this summer after the jig head change and eye trimming modification, that I just felt like I should share it with you. I used to live in New Jersey and lived in Allentown, PA and Phillipsburg, NJ my first couple of years out of college back in 1975 - 1978. Watching you fish made me miss that area SOOO much. I'm down here dripping in sweat on my fishing outings and you looked so comfortable fishing those creeks. Man do I miss that! Thanks for sharing. I'll be watching more this afternoon and in the future. Blessings!
@@chipseiler1766 I have some of iFish’s BG-1 heads. They are beautiful and would likely work very well with the Micro Wormz, but I have not tried that pairing yet
@@chipseiler1766 I do have several packs of the LarvaZ but have not devoted significant time to fishing them. I have seen iFish’s video about how he likes to doctor them, though and might give that a try myself. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!!
I picked up a few packs of these a couple of weeks ago, just haven't had the time to give them a try yet. They look great for ultra-light, multi-species fishing. I've had good results using the Z-man micro finesse TRD's this year and I'm sure these Wormz's will work just as good. Thank you for the video!!!
@brandwineangler6748 Thanks for sharing your install! I'm about to do my own. I've got two quick questions for you. What strength is your polypropylene fence mesh, 700 800? How has the fence held up over the last few years against the potential sagging top line you mentioned?
I don’t recall if my fence was 700 or 800, unfortunately. We moved a couple of years ago so I can’t offer a current assessment but as of the time we moved there was no sagging. I was very pleased with how the fence was performing. I know that does not really help you too much but I hope it helps a bit.
My neighbor and I made these along time ago and took em to the Ohio River and was using surf rods and big Dawia spinning reels. He would cast em out 3/4 across the river and stripers were crushing it!!! Crazy times
I created a sort of flap that was about 10” high at the bottom that overlapped the gap. Seemed to work because we didn’t have any evidence of critter invasion
I watched this video a year ago. This video made me do homework on the Micro finesse baits. I'm not sponsored by Tackle Tactics nor Zman. With that being said..... I found that TT is the only way to go with these baits. You did better than I did. I had to chip off built up paint and it just didn't work. I steer away from super glue due to the odor it puts off. The TRD is a great bait but I love the Shad Fryz!! These baits are killing it here in Arkansas. Dark and Stormy & Space Guppy my favorite colors. Your video was more helpful than you realize. For that,.... I thank you sir!!!
This is a fair point. I do think that Elaztec micro finesse lures have their place though. Now that I have identified the best jig heads for them, I find them great for heavy action situations when fish are destroying plastisol grub bodies. But when the fishing is tough and I really want to maximize my prospects I find myself turning to something like a small Keitech Swing Impact paddletail or a Kalin Triple Threat curl tail grub or one of the microfinesse offerings from Eurotackle, or just a good old Trout Magnet.
@@brandywineangler6748 kalin triple threat grubs are excellent I agree with you on that one bro.and the z line lures are tear resistant I just fish lures that have worked for me for 40 plus years.
No fall spawning run of white perch in the Chesapeake, although in late fall/early winter (December-ish) Yellow Perch do start to congregate at deeper spots in rivers and larger creek mouths as they stage for their late winter run. So there are perch to be caught in the Upper Chesapeake in late fall/early winter.
Gotta wonder if trolling one of these will hook Coho salmon, over here in the PNW ? Maybe with a little modification, like silver paint, and siwash single-point hooks.
Two things, as I see jt: (1) I could not come up with a way to apply hot water to the interior hat band such that it would shrink without getting the brim wet, and (2) the 5950 is the on-field hat of MLB. As such, the brim has to be made to handle getting soaked repeatedly with sweat or it would be a useless piece of baseball equipment. To be sure: if you want a true flat brim look this is not the move for you because the heat softens the brim and it will not remain rigidly flat. But if someone is looking to shrink a hat that is too big them, then are not likely going for the true flat brim look anyway, as that is best achieved with a hat that is at least somewhat too big for the wearer.
Thank you! Looks great with the plants and the dog! I am finishing up my yard and working on several gates now. I came to the same conclusion as you to get 1 gate post in good first, then work your way to the other post to get a good fit. Nice to see someone else do it though before I do. I might cement the gate posts after I get the whole gate fit right. I also bought some black wedges for a few other posts that I could not get perfectly plumb.
These do catch fish. The Micro TRD and Ticklerz in particular have become staples for redeye, crappie and smallmouth for me.... But I have Gripe-z (see what I did there?). 1. The lead on the heads is somehow softer than standard jigheads. It starts wobbling after a small amount of abuse from rocks and fish. I use gel superglue to re-secure it. This doesn't happen to me with other jigheads that lack a lead collar, so I'm not sure what's going on there. 2. The hooks are soft...which is sometimes a good thing, because you may be able to straighten it out of a snag with 6lb fluoro....but on these the point likes to roll and/or become dull more quickly than your run of the mill jigs. Carry a sharpener. 3. A mono weed guard option would make these much more productive for freestone streams and areas with a lot of timber. Something like you see on the Slab Slayer jigheads Bald Eagle Jigs puts out would be best, so that you can trim it to suit your needs. As is I stick it in my fly vise and tie on a weed guard with single strand stainless steel leader. 4. The clunky molds. The larvae, Fryz, and stingerz could all be made a lot smoother. I found that cutting off the big honking eyes on the larvae makes it a much more productive lure, and the stingerz aren't as effective as they could be on a drop shop because the body is so thick. These could be amazing baits for everything...currently they're still kind of micro bass lures. They certainly work for panfish, but they're not optimized for it. I have no trouble catching surprisingly big bass on panfish lures. It's often more difficult to do ot the other way around. 5. A lot of the colors that aren't meant to be translucent, particularly the more natural colors, are transparent in a way I don't see on standard plastics. They need to up their game with that. 6. The color options are also lackluster. I'd love to see them add some more natural color options as well. I find that natural colored baits with hot spots of color are WAY more effective than the trendy bright colors the fryz and stingerz in particular come in. Give me a green pumpkin backed fryz with a silver/smoke belly and I will seine a pond. It wouldn't even be fair. Currently you just have to add black with a sharpie for the two tone effect on these things.
Absolutely excellent comments, one and all! I have not noticed the softness of the lead issue but I tend to use the 1/30 and 1/20 oz zman jighead sizes and they are so light that they don’t hit anything hard enough to deform. The hooks are thin but that is fine because they require very little pressure to go in, at least while sharp. Others on this platform (I-fish for example) have noted the benefits of some surgery on the Larvaez and Stingers bodies. I can see that being useful in certain situations for sure, especially with the eyes on the Larvaez. Thanks for taking the time to share your excellent observations!
By the way, I agree 100% on having some more natural look options. The current color palette works for some of the muddy tidal creeks and rivers I fish on DelMarVa but for the clear rock-bottomed creeks I fish in SE Pa, natural colors and patterns are much more effective for me
Thanks! Was a good multispecies session for sure. I picked photos of the smallest ones (other than the trout) for the video as a bit of a joke but on super-ultralight gear they are all fun.
It is an LL Bean tackle sling bag, size XL if I recall. I love it. Excellent product. Comfortable, holds a good amount of stuff without being too bulky, and has held up really well. Is pretty expensive but if you wade or bank fish a lot it is well worth it.
Greetings from nearby Chadds Ford. Excellent overview! I install one of these for a customer on the main line tomorrow and I expect, with your insights in mind, to get done quickly!
“Ned” or “Yellow Ned” are fairly common regional monikers for yellow perch in Maryland where I grew up. Check out the MD DNR fish facts page for yellow perch, which notes these alternate names: dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/Pages/fish-facts.aspx?fishname=Yellow+Perch
I have not personally tried them yet in salt but Elaztech is a very well-established product in the salt so I don’t see why these would not perform really well.
