I’ve always compared this show as being to the JW movies what Clone Wars and Rebels is to SW as well, so I love that you also made that comparison. It has very similar vibes, and overall way better than it should be. There is one overall very weak season imo (I’m sure you’ll notice when you get to it), but the rest are all solid, with season 3 being one of my fav forms of Jurassic Park media all around.
before Fry, Leela and the professor break into the museum. U can see two certain of Bender’s nft’s are next to each other: The gold Bender is right next to the Bride Bender. A clear reference to Calculon and Coilette. The wedding dress that bender is seen wearing is the same dress that was seen in the in S4 episode “Bender should not be allowed on tv” and what’s even coincidental that episode aired before “Bend Her” foreshadowing Coilette.
I just realized that Calculon along with Gunter don’t appear in this episode. But since Calculon is my favorite character, I think I know a few good reasons why he didn’t show up. A. I’m sure Leela did invited him but Bender of course will be there since Fry is his bff and B. Since Calculon has been resurrected already and if you have seen the two films and seasons by Comedy Central. You’ll notice that there are a lot of foreshadowings of poor Calculon’s upcoming death. There are signs of Calculon wanted to committed suicide or hoping that someone will kill him as well and this all happened after he said this to her “Coilette, if I can’t spend my life with you, I will leap from this very balloon”. And seeing the none secondary characters had “died” and not Calculon this is hinting that he’s not going to die again. I’m just disappointed that he didn’t appear in this episode. I hope he’ll appear soon. I wonder what he is doing after “All My Circuits” got cancelled for the fourth time due to Bender.
I would have to say that I did disagree with you since I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. After the Zoidberg death, I knew that they would be coming back, so I was able to laugh at the stupidity at some deaths. This episode was not about the deaths but about Frys trauma and how the path to hell is laid by good intentions. Also, Genji is the one who sent the common cold into the future by winning the science fair.

Now that you’ve reached this point in the show, I think it’s safe to let you know that you probably might wanna revisit the movies because, as you know now lol, this show will be directly crossing over with them. I have felt he could possibly have been a Ren looking to build his generation of Knights. However if going the Sith route, I feel this is a rogue apprentice seeking to topple his Master in secret. If he survives the Jedi in this series, the true Sith Master will eliminate him, in my mind. I think it would be cool to see the Knights explored however, their presence in the comics have been pretty cool, especially when they raided Fortress Vader on Mustafar and he recognized their names. So they have had a presence for some time. Just my thoughts and hopes though!
They did play Kylo Ren's theme twice (which i have only heard 1 other person mention. so it's like i'm living in the twilight zone! lol), so my current theory is that it's Ren. and that he is the apprentice of someone else wanting to branch out on his own.

1:30 As already alluded to by some of the commenters, the practical reason why they switched from (phonetic) Cantonese to English is because very few of the cast (if any) speak Chinese, and certainly not fluently. The Asian actors cast are from diverse ethnic backgrounds (Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Indonesian, etc.) and for most of them, English is their first (or best) language. It would be impractical to have them memorize phonetic "gibberish" for the whole stretch. But for story-telling purposes, the reason they wanted to go that way was for the sake of the characters. This is a show whose primary audience is the English-speaking Western viewer. And the characters were introduced to viewers speaking a foreign tongue for which viewers had to rely on subtitles. But this added layer tends to "otherize" them (to English-speaking ears), especially in a backdrop of other characters freely communicating in English. By having the characters communicating their Chinese to English, that layer is dropped and the viewer is no longer burdened with having to overcome that extra layer. It's the storytellers' way having us Western viewers accept the Chinese protagonists as "one of us."
You do not say "Who is Sutekh?" when the God of Death comes a-calling! Sutekh almost won the first time with both hands tied behind his back. Anyone who hasn't seen "Pyramid of Mars" should try and watch it and then rewatch this episode.
Sutekh the Destroyer is a villain from Classic Who and is considered one of the top 10 Dr. Who villains of all the time and the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) story "Pyramids of Mars" considered on of the best ever Dr. Who stories of all time you should check it out it's a great story.

Sutekh is one of the baddest of the bad from clasic Doctor Who. Watch “The Pyramids of Mars” from 1975. He makes the Master look like a birthday party clown.
Additional information: Orpheus is the Sandman's son (see the comics and Episode 11 of the TV series). Favourite character: Edwin Best episode: 7 (how Charles and Edwin met, Edwin and Simon's conversation in Hell, the doll spider, and Edwin's confession on the staircase). I haven't read the DBD comics, but I assume our 4 mains are going to be re-united in Season 2 (+ Jenny?) with the Night Nurse watching over them. I'd like to see the Cat King, Monty, and Tragic Mick put in an appearance as well. I don't know how the relationships are going to develop. I expect Charles is going to have to make a choice between Edwin and Crystal at some point but I don't want either of them left hanging.
The orpheus and eurydice myth is very lovely! Eurydice dies and Orpheus loves her so much he descends into the underworld to save her. He manages to convince Hades to let her back to life, but there's a catch: orpheus must exit the underworld and she will follow him, but if he looks back at her even once she will be dragged back. So he starts returning, but on his way back something happens. Depending on the version, either he hears her trip, or worries she's gotten lost, or something else, and he turns back to look at her. In every version of the story, it's Orpheus's immense love for her that makes him look back and lose her again. She gets dragged back to the underworld and there's nothing he can't do. It's very sad actually, which is why edwin really didn't like that comparison lol

on the mad jack timeline from the previous episode: the timeline where the doctor vanishes, the PM is influenced by Mad Jack, and would have probably launched a nuke, which needed to be stopped. In the original timeline, the PM was not mind controllled, and never actually launched a nuke (he was just being a bad PM who liked stockpiling them). The whole timeline with mad jack did not actually happen, it was more of a simulation kinda deal, like "amys choice" where the whole episode took place inside a dream created by the "dreamlord". (except this time its a magical simulation, instead of a dream simulation).
I think it's my favorite episode because we see how Edwin and Charles meet. It also shows how good these characters are. Edwin having just escaped Hell, decides to to stay and comfort a dying kid. Charles having just died decides to stay with a stranger who showed him immense compassion. Something I doubt he's ever experienced before. Crystal finally stands up to Demon David and gets her memories back. Esther didn't kill Tragic Mick, just scared him into helping her build her device. My only problem with the episode is that Esther to easily beats Cat King. He's suppose to be really powerful and her magic doesn't work on him. Plus, where the heck were his cats that ate a man? You think they would attack anyone who would harm the King.
About Charles's death. I think there might be two reasons why he chose to linger on earth. The one that's the most explicit in the show, which is staying with Edwin (who was one of the very few people to show him such kindness. how do you not stay with someone after that). But I also think that he's afraid of what comes after. Because we see him constantly worry that he's not a good person, and that he's like his dad, so I think he might be scared that his afterlife won't be so good
Charles's immediate response to Edwin's confession being to talk about Orpheus and Eurydice is insane lol. "I can't say I'm in love with you but also let me compare us to Greek mythology's most famous lovers". That was so funny to me. Never change, charles
If you’re curious about cryogenics, I think I can help with what is and isn’t currently possible. The big limiting factor is the fact that we humans have a lot of water in us, and when water freezes it expands. Literally bursts the cells from the inside. For that reason, anyone freezing themselves in the past 50 years hoping to be revived someday are likely never coming back because the damage is already done. And with them you are absolutely correct, as they aren’t likely to be able to repair that without erasing/destroying whoever they once were. However…in theory, the shows version of cryogenics is very much possible. They did it by discovering/creating a nontoxic antifreeze. If we could discover the same thing in the real world, and be sure with testing that there weren’t any unexpected side effects of having it in our system, then we could have our bodies lowered to freezing temperatures without the cellular damage inherent with our bodies water turning to ice. In that case, the impossible suddenly becomes a lot more feasible.
