Was this ship named in the MS Estonia mayday call, as Estonia says ”Silja europa, viking, estonia” in the transscript as they were trying to contact a ship. I think i read on papers that this is the ship which estonia referred to by ”Viking”.
So many memories of this ship on the Oslo-Fredrikshavn line. A few times in the winter we used to take her on sundays to Fredrikshavn, spending the day in Fredrikshavn and back in the evening. Sad that there is no more a ferry conecting Oslo and Jylland. In the winter, after arriving in Fredrikshavn on monday morning, se did a roundtrip to Göteborg and back and then overnight to Oslo, the only time you could take a night ferry from Fredrikshavn to Oslo, normaly se sailed back to Oslo at daytime. She was then moved, usualy to Revierkaia Pier after arriving in Oslo in the morning, not taking up the dock for the DFDS ferry arriving a few hours later. They where using the same dock and terminal in Oslo. If you ever se a pickture of the harbore in Oslo with both Stena Saga and a DFDS ship, you will know the pickture is taken on a tuesday
Such a shame it's so wrong and a mash-up of the Islander & Clipper. The hull, stern door & funnel are all Commodore Clipper whilst the accommodation block is Islander apart from the front of the accommodation is Clipper. I definitely recommend the free version of both Islander & Clipper also including the Goodwill from Robs VSF Addons
Great compilation of the life of "Saga". I checked MarineTraffic and there it says she arrived at Pemba Anch 2024-10-06 16:01 (UTC+2). Thanks for sharing! // Bertil.
My friend's father was one of the chief engineers on that ship. I once got to visit the engine room and control rooms when the ship was in port. He heard that we are nearby and asked to visit and gave us a tour of the ship in the areas where passengers were not allowed. It was impressive to see the engines right next to it and finally to visit the bridge.
Thank you for this video. I was 12 years old, when I, my father and brother return Marienham to Naantali traveling with this ship, Diana II, now almost 50 years, those where lovely memories.
M/S Diana II, this was an amazing video to watch and a fantastic ship, the fact that she was at so many places going is pretty cool, thank's for the vid
Supposedly, she was actually ordered by a Norwegian Company called Balder Lines, with the name Balder Nor (imaginative, huh?) for a Germany - Norway route, but they withdrew at a very early stage and then handed over the order to Slite, supposedly Sally (who owned the "half sistership" Viking Sally, the later Estonia) was offered the ship first
Very good history video! Also in 80s she lost her bow-visor, but a ramp didn’t fall and the ferry stayed afloat until an arrival. This incident is also showing, that this could happen in Estonia’s case. Again, great job, really happy to see a history of MS Diana II on RU-vid!
