it looks like a watermelon with that wide grain LOLOLOL, also that is what is called a "clown burst" NOT a sunburst, also its too shiny and doesn't match the rest of the relicing.
They called it their 59 Burst. They've changed hands now so I'm not sure if they are still finishing guitars. Mine was done by John Regehr over at vancouverguitarfinishing.com
Hey, great looking Les paul you got there. I see your UK based, so am I. Obviously paying for the guitar is one thing and then you have all the follow up costs like shipping, tax and customs. Is it worth it? This is an American/Canadian top quality guitar kit, not like your cheap £200 ones, I'm pondering on ordering on one to the UK/waiting to go to the USA and bringing on back.
I liked B. Hefner. They must have gone belly up. You could get a Fender neck from them by year. I have a '59 Tele neck by B. Hefner that I had finished by MJT.
I confused, your purchase came assembled from ebay? Looks kick -ass! I'm looking for a single cut now in the kit form, save a ton of frustration not mentioning time. Am I not seeing more info on the price or where purchased? Anybody?
Hi no its not from ebay. You need to go to www.precisionguitarkits.com. Theses are custom made direct from the manufacturer. They used to offer a finishing service but I'm not sure they do that anymore.
I used and MJT body for my custom “Telestrat”, it’s a strat body by MJT with a “tele” neck. Much like Ed King’s old player guitar that’s shown in some of his pics.
@@nathanward3888 Have you bought a Gibson lately? Even with the addition of getting the finishing done, I've used components thay far outway the quality Gibson is using and at the same time make it a much more unique and personal guitar and still for less than a new LP.
There is trouble for the unwashed in buying kits like these. It costs twice as much to finish as a tokai bought from japan, but will have less resale value and while it might be good, it won't be better than a japanese-made LS 186 or equivalent. And those will be one-piece back guitars with a $200 hard shell case included. If economy isn't important, these look like good kids, though. It looks like precision sent a couple of these out to internet "reviewers" like tom hintz (tom's videos are really marketing promos and not reviews) a few years ago.
B hefner takes forever. I ordered an unfinished neck with no fret work. Its been 13 weeks so far and he told me it was supposed to come in at a latest of last week
Bill Bee i finally got it after 21 weeks. He forgot to put a finish on it, forgot to make a nut for it, and might have forgot to put the custom neck thickness that is paid $45 extra for. Ill have to use calipers on it to see
I dont know about vintage guitars. I much prefer rolled edges as it does feel more "worn in" when you are playing it. My Musikraft neck feels sooo good, i would highly recommend them. Good luck.
hey man, any info about the process/ quality etc would be greatly appreciated. Ive been looking at these for a while now but never find enough reviews to go through with it
Bad milk, first let me say that I have no doubt that the quality of their regular, non-custom products is extremely high. But when I placed my order, they were not organized enough to keep track of all of my custom specs. I ordered a 100% black limba Les Paul with gold shell marker dots and small (old style) holes for the bridge. And Phil sent me an invoice that accurately listed all the custom stuff. But it's as if they forgot to check the list when they were building the thing. The guitar they shipped me had the modern big bridge-mounting holes and silver marker dots, and worst of all, a maple veneer covering up the beautifully figured black limba on the headstock. I was just heartbroken. And then when I complained, they sent a replacement that still didn't match my specs. So I ended up keeping the first one, and should I ever finish it, it will be a very nice guitar with a goddamn black-painted headstock. It will always be less than it should have been. So my advice to you is don't hesitate to get one of their regular kits, but DO NOT place a custom order because you may not get what you asked for (and paid extra for).
Thanks a lot zounds13! It seems to be the case with most of the guitar builds. If you ask for something custom its not gonna end well. It sucks that you never got what you wanted, especially because they are far from cheap. I'm currently in the UK and after i went over everything i needed to make it the guitar i want plus shipping its cheaper and easier to walk into a store and buy a gibson. International shipping killed it for me. Same goes for anything on the lower end (guitar fetish). Don't give up on the build though it'd be great to see it. Thanks again
more pressure on one brg, will slow that side, causing the other side to spin. Check out the video of "Differential Ring & Pinion Gear setup" by Weber Auto.
Hi Yep the guitar is all finished and sounding awesome. I havent got round to doing a follow up vieo yet as to be honest Ive just been too busy with work to play it! But you can view it on the PGK website: buy.precisionguitarkits.com/dr-john-tribute-in-de-house
***** In gene's defence you have LESS risk of not getting a good kit vs buying a uber cheap 1, that said IF he doesnt have the full ability/tools/space to do a raw kit then this is a great deal.
Cheaper maybe but not better. It still cost less that a USA LP over here in the UK but with the personalization only the custom shop could have done. The quality of the wood, joints and fitting is awesome and the paint finish is flawless nitro, maybe not to everyone's taste but fits mine.
