What are the 2 "compartments" on each side of the cargoes front lift up, built into the Rogue's body? You pull the flat plastic part off and there seems to be a small area there. Is it for storage or the Nissan First Aid kit I got when I bought the Rogue?

I am trying to fit in a 28x 28 cat cage and it won’t go all the way. I lowered the back seats but there is a partition that won’t let the cage move forward. Is that partition removed?
