Salut eric!
Nice fish, but all that extra handling stress was unnecessary. When you look at the additional hemorrhaging in the fins, that's not from the net, but from stress. I say this as a former Fish Pathologist and 42 year Musky angler. We all need to rethink how we handle fish. You don't need to waste time with taking still pictures, especially before AND after measuring the fish. Just grab your stills from your video footage. Secondly, if you take a length and girth measurement, it's to determine weight. If you want a good weight measure, bring a bathroom scale on the boat, and weigh yourself with the fish, then subtract your weight and there's no need for the length and girth measurements. With adjustments, you could lower the handling time by 2/3 and the greatly reduce the handling stress on the fish. One study is underway, and more are needed, to determine potential delayed mortality after stressful handling, which we know suppresses the fish immune system.
