Wow! I feel privileged to hear your story. I thought all the native people of California were all but virtually wiped out by the Spanish and then the California gold rush finished the job. Or maybe that is up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. You are not federally recognized because your people may never have formally fought a war against U.S. troops and then sign a treaty. And then be at least one quarter by blood related to the signers of the treaty.
