I'm a knitting pattern designer and teacher based in the UK. I have designed patterns for many UK & US knitting & crochet magazines incl Vogue Knitting, The Knitter, Knitting Magazine, Let's Knit, Interweave Crochet, Knitscene, Debbie Bliss Magazine & many more. I also design for yarn companies and have my own pattern line.
I'm in Ireland, so after Brexit I started ordering from non-UK shops to avoid import fees and surprise VAT charges. As a result, I have learned bits of lots of different languages. My vocabulary is a bit limited, but I recognise phrases such as "interchangeable circular knitting needles", "yarn", "linen", "wool", "cotton", "shopping cart", "check out", and "out of stock" in dozens of languages now!
I had trouble getting hold of this month's Knitting mag too - looks like WHS have stopped stocking it locally (none of my local supermarkets ever have it😢), my daughter eventually found me a copy at Piccadilly rail station in Manchester
I think your sound is not bad. You have a mild voice and when you turn your head sometimes it makes it difficult to hear you. I do raise the volume or put on the closed captioning. I listen on my iPad. BTW - Mostly lace
@debbylovesyarn5148 I think I've worked out how to make it louder in editing. We'll see. Also researching microphones which I've been meaning to get for ages anyway.
Thank you Anniken for your podcast. Your patterns do lead me to buy the magazines although I have a subscription to the Knitter. You always seem to be busy looking at the amount of patterns you have published! I just can’t keep up!
When watching youtube in general , your intro is at the same volume as other videos , but actual cast sound is lower comparitively to other youtube videos. Say if I were watching a different channel previously , I do reach over and turn up volume. It hasn't been an issue , but you were asking . So leaving feedback. Device wise , I am watching on my MAC computer if that helps .
The Cool Woolings advent is now sold out 😓 I was listening on my iPad with ear buds. I didn't think you were quiet, but when the adverts came on I was deafened, so maybe you were
I have a skein of Noro Silk Garden Lite knocking around that I’ve had for years which I could see if suitable (esp as I’ve just had all my hair chopped off🥶brrr). 😂
Thanks Anniken, lovely pattern and as an aside you can really see how much weight you've lost, when you look back to the previous video insert! I have 'Knitting' on subscription and I also believe Tom Daley's briefs are crocheted xx
I believe the Lykke needles have a 5 year warranty! Thinking of replacing my 10+ year old set of knitpicks with a Knitpro ginger set and a short Lykke set 😊 I got a pair of the Lykke short and was surprised they're not 9cm/3.5in but they're actually 7cm. Better for me and my small circular knitting.
@@AnnikenAllis Yes! I have so many friends that sat and broke their wooden needles. They didn't break their Lykke ones so I can't say how the warranty process is but I did see in some YT videos that they were sent new needles/cables with no problem.
“a Bit Bitty”. Very British. How close do you live to the hotel? Someday I’ll get there. Too bad about that beautiful sweater. I would just take some of the leftover yarn and stitch it up. I won’t tell anyone that it has two holes. Four tables at yarndale sounds like a giant space. What are you selling? That park that you were in with the dog look fabulous to bring a chair and just knit and smell the grass.
I'm about 1hr 20-30 min drive from The Knitting Hotel. The park is lovely but it's a bit small but very popular with locals. Yes my space at Yarndale was quite big but it can get very crowded & it's easier having a bigger space.
If the 30cm cushion was knitted in two pieces people may have a chance of finishing one side in a day, giving a sense of accomplishment? Mind you I'm speaking as the person who has never finished a workshop piece in any craft😏
Anniken what Knitting Magazine would you recommend getting? Many of the magazines here where I live in the US have stopped being published including the ones I used to get.
@bethmarshall9873 I've not used it yet but I did pull a bit of yarn off when I talked about it when I recorded the podcast today. I'll do a review of it when I've used it properly.
Constructive feedback: is not clear what you knitting because of the speed. Good video for showing off the nails, but for someone that is trying to learn how to do the stitch, this is not helpful
@annavictoriasolis Appreciate the feedback. As it's a Short, it's not really meant as a tutorial but I do have several Brioche tutorials on my RU-vid channel. Sometimes I just film myself knitting & post it as a fun little clip. I also have online courses in Continental Knitting & Brioche Knitting at www.yarnaddict.co.uk 😊
Hi Anniken. I have been knitting since January and I wish I knew how to read my knitting better (I have nobody but the internet to help/show me) so that I could tink bank no matter which stitch I am busy with. Also, picking up a dropped garter stitch is something I really struggle with. Also wish I knew how to fix my tension when it comes to knitting an icord edge as there is a gap/ladder between the icord and the garter stitch and I can't find any reason (online) for it. Ripping back to fix or reknit is also terribly daunting for me, especially working with fingering weight yarn as all the stitches seem to disappear before I can put a needle through them!
I got this set but I really don’t like the stickiness and the craftsmanship of them. I know it’s really beautiful but the feel is not right when using 🥲
H, Lantern Moon needles are expensive and they are not my favorite .Yes they caught the yarn in the cable as you have mention .I notice that when I knit my jumper and that's keep me annoying.
@asha6343 yes definitely expensive. I've used my 4mm a fair bit now & I'm not buying a full set but I don't dislike them. Like the swivel cables & that they can be used with Lykke & Knit Pro. Very useful.
Love your podcasts of your trips to Norway. I hope to visit next year with my husband. I look forward to your November trip and seeing the lovely yarn that you will be bringing home. Happy anniversary to you both 🥂
@@AnnikenAllis Well he lived as a child in the region of Alesund as his father had a job in those parts for a couple of years - but it wasn't actually Alesund itself. So there are people still there that his parents are still in touch with. It's going to be lovely!!
@@AnnikenAllis Yes it was. Very nice to say hello. I hope that the second day of Yarndale was a success. Haven't cast my shawl on yet but really looking forward to doing that very soon 🤩
@alywilliams2581 it was lovely to chat with you. Sunday was quieter but still busier than last year & I really enjoyed the whole weekend. Looking forward to next year 😊
Anniken , I like it with the pompom because it makes the hat look more interesting.Your Grandmother"s doilys are lovely and I have kept the ones I have for years as keepsakes to remember the person who crocheted them and are not here anymore.
I wear my socks during the day and will wear them for 4 to 5 days before putting them in the washing basket. I keep a special, small, basket for my socks and do a mass wash when I'm running out of socks.
Wow, the sweater is absolutely beautiful, I love the lace on the sleeves and I like the different colour sequence on the sleeves, it just makes it more interesting and unique. ❤
