I’m a Buck fan from way back. Having Don Rich singing that high harmony was the trademark of Buck’s sound. He was a very big reason why Buck had all those #1 songs year in and year out. Not only was he a good vocalist, he was a fantastic telecaster player. While things were changing in the early 70’s for the band, only one thing completely changed for Buck and he could not prevent it from happening no matter how hard he begged. And that was Don’s accident. Don was hidebound to ride his Harley that night and would have no matter what else was going on around him. That accident/death caused an irreparable hole that took Buck Owens a very long time to get over. If Don had lived, there might have been something else that would’ve happened to change things. Don was threatening to leave the Buckaroos and write a tell-all book. So if that were to come to pass, much of what Buck considered secret would have been put out in to the open. Whether Don have written the book is conjecture but things that are commonplace now were not done 40 years ago. Still, the fact is Buck was put in a position where he could not change what happened and he would be without that magic sound that happens so rarely but is very apparent when it does, a trademark that the group became known for and that only those individuals involved could create time and again Don Rich therefore was a huge part of that sound and his death brought that sound to a close. In any case, Don Rich is thoroughly missed and will always be considered the light that other guitar players search for no matter what type of music they may play.
All of our family was glued to the TV when Buck & Don were on! Dad brought Buck's albums home & we ran a needle through especially on Sunday afternoons!
i met Julius in the summer of 1971 as a junior in high school-he showed up in the town of scituate Massachusetts =he first appeared just walking around the town in a white robe-before he left about 10- 12 high school students joined his cult. He knew the right town to pick at the time because the town had some affluence and there was a lot of divide in the country at the time. He was like a drug- I remember when the album came out and people looked happy-as time went on-the truth started to come. It's all about the power the control the money and the sex. This swine gets a A+. I hope my classmates are ok and I feel really bad for the parents brothers sisters and the family pets. Please have forgiveness for yourself.
That's from a 1979 episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Hour". She and Dick Van Dyke did two sketches as Rob and Laura on that show. It was very sweet. Here's a link to anyone who wants to watch them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HiS2pYFMD5I.html
