Your explanation at the beginning was helpful when following along with your tutorial which was one of the better tutorials for this dress I have watched. Each step was explained in easy-to-understand instructions and your tips to make the final project look more couture was appreciated.

Yes it is! Wrap dresses are essentially made the same way. This pattern is unique in that it was originally produced in 1974 by the original designer of the famous wrap dress, Diane von Furstenberg in partnership with Vogue patterns. It is not often that you can find original patterns like this on the mass market; the pattern and directions have essentially remained the same. I loved learning how the designer intended for the wrap dress to be sewn.

Thanks for this. I have thought about buying a mystery box many times but always hesitated. Glad I did. I was thinking of some projects to use these fabrics as you pulled them out . I have lots of prints in my stash and could possibly make items with the solids, but you do not get to pick and choose. Well maybe do a follow-up and show us how you put some of this to use.
ElinEstelle, your dress is gorgeous in the ponte knit and the color is delicious❤. May I ask where you purchased your point turner covers from. I have a full set of these turners and regret not buying the covers! I have searched for them with no luck. I purchased all my tools at the sewing expo a few years ago. Any info is appreciated. Thank you so much! I honestly don't know where the point turner covers came from. I inherited this one from my grandma. I agree, it is a very easy thing to find! I looked on Wawak but was surprised to find they don't carry the covers. If I ever do get a lead, I'll let you know!

What a disappointment! I watched another woman review a Mood mystery box recently, don’t remember her name, and she received several pretty prints and some decent yardage. Sorry.
(Taffy) don’t give up yet. You can ash the fabrics, you might be pleasantly surprised. OR you have lots of dyeing possibilities . . . I am always looking for “less desirable” pieces to make a “muslin” for fitting. But, the first thing I would do is to wash the lot. To soften stiff fabrics, wash with a can of Coca Cola (no soap, not diet, not Pepsi).
This is the 1st of your videos for me. I know it is an older video. Keep in mind all the various color block style dresses. that beg ror smaller yardages. Also all the tiered dresses a skirts, I just picked up my last piece of fabric for a tiered dress. I am a larger plus. I love the fabrics and they are going to make a lovely dress for church. All but 1 is thrifted.
I was in Minneapolis for an event and decided to check out a fabric store. Found the SR Harris Fabrics' Brooklyn Park warehouse. It was unbelievable! It has the most batiks I have ever seen. OMG However, in truth, the batiks at JoAnn's run about $10/yd which is their typical sale price. SR Harris Warehouse prices are always 50% off the regular price which lands at $10/yd for batiks. The good news is, that the selection at SR Harris'Warehouse for batiks is massive. I bought batiks in colors I have never found anywhere else. I bought suiting fabric. Oh, the suiting fabric choices and colors are massive as well! I am new to quilting and have just begun sewing again after decades. SR Harris Warehouse is the place to go for any quilter, sewist, fashion designer, fabric crafter, and the like. It is well worth a visit...a day trip.
I made this cape about 3 yrs ago and I'm ready to make another one. I absolutely love this pattern. I'm going to have to try adding the arm holes like you did. I made a hood with my current cape and I used magnetic buttons. I sew 1 side of the breast to the cape making the cape into a 1 way entry. So when every I put on the cape it has a dramatic effect. I love the pattern you used. It's absolutely beauty. I just bought a mustard yellow water proof fabric. I'm so excited to be water proof.
I am really happy I clicked on your video. I have viewed most of the tutorials for this pattern and I like yours the best. It is very clear, easy to follow and I find your tips and the information you provided to be really helpful. I love wrap dresses and have already made a few using other designs; but I will certainly be having a go at this pattern; with the help of your tutorial. I think I will try making one each with challis and cotton jersey.
Actually by sewing the skirt lining to the waist seam last, you can hide the waist seam allowance. This can be done by sewing the skirt and bodice lining pieces with right sides together. I’ll post my blog post later this week with photos!
So you don't enclose the lining of the skirt so that it is not seen as you did with the sleeves? Will the raw edges of the skirt be seen when you flip the dress inside out?
That's a great question! I do not enclose the lining at the hem, so the seam allowances will show if you flip it inside out. However, the seams of the dress and the lining are facing each other.
I am totally agreed with you. I ordered a box as well. And such a disappointment. The selection are either plain horrible color (bright red, orange,) or weird design (naked woman in Yoga posses) NEVER again. As you said "live and learn"
