Saw Alan Hudson recently saying that he played the best football of his career for Stoke, and also that Jimy Greenhoff was one of the most underrated players of his era.
How did RU-vid’s algorithms have this on my suggestions??? I’ve been looking for this for decades on and off. I never thought I’d see this again after describing the save to people for years!
Back when real men played football. They didn't roll around on the floor unlike the posers wrapped up in cotton wool they wouldn't last fifteen minutes with the players of yesterday
for me,because peters was a spurs man,the big three from 66 were moore, hurst and banks.much as i worship geoff, i can't beleive that banks rates this save above the pele header..! it was a crap pen.i was there,i was seven.i cried like a bastard.
A mere 53 points won the title that season. I think it was the second lowest total ever. Derby 53 Liverpool 51 Ipswich 51 Everton 50 Stoke 49 Someone eventually fell over the line first. Hudson has blamed injuries to a small squad plus some crucial Shilton mistakes for Stoke not winning it.
Loved this as the stoke fan I am, but don't tell me these games weren't as fast as today, they certainly were! The goal keeping from Parkes was nothing short of sensational considering the conditions...top draw!
Back in the 70s, I watched highlights of such matches at home on a colour TV, and one could see that the pitches were bad. However, now that I can watch these games on a modern computer screen, they look even worse. Suffice as to say, I now realise just how much skill and effort was required to play on such a surface.
As a Stoke fan. This was such a terrible season. Anyone not old enough remember (how fortunate you are) week after week we were whipping boys. This game was a ray of light but the Arsenal team should have been placed on the transfer list after this display
Be interested to know what the "official" attendance was for this. I bet they had it down as about 32000. It looks pretty full. I bet there were 50000 in there.
Seem to remember Stoke being promoted that season. Several decent players, Geoff Scott, Howard Kendall, Roger Jones, Garth Crooks, Sammy Irvine, Paul Richardson, Denis Smith, Paul Randall.
