Thanks. No disrespect, but the way you describe it, it doesn´t make any sense. You should provide better examples, otherwise people will challenge what you are talking about. In any stock-based company you have voting rights. Any organization will have to change its decisions, as markets/environments change. People don´t want to vote on any small shit, that´s why you assign the decision power to the leaders, in any organization, in any point in history, in any country. I would point out specific cases, e.g. comparisons to the development of IP or wikipedia or something.

What is stopping any kind of hostile takeover of DAOs? like what happened with the Build Finance Dao - I see a lot a flawed logic in the "Democratic" governance based on number of shares. Shouldn't it be one person = one vote to even get close to something like a democracy? Once you give incentives for tokens and shares, you introduce majority shareholders and control by single individuals playing the system. And once they have full governance via votes, BOOM, all your treasury is gone.
Given that there is so little law on limiting personal liability from ownership of DAO shares, what do you do? Form a back end LLC and own the DAO through it? Can you preserve the "distributed" decision making of the DAO via contracts, with the LLC being just a protective shell to limit liabilities？
Y'all really just put up a picture of a coup attempt and said DAOs can help organize "civic engagement." There is so much wrong with that I don't even know where to begin. Wtf?
How about before you jump to conclusions you first reread the slide before you make that accusation. It clearly says before that bullet point "Recent populist uprisings stem from feelings of powerlessness". That coup fits the 2nd bullet point, not the last one.

Great video and information. This is very exciting. It’s a great and underlooked area of blockchain development (lots of focus on DeFi application but not from an organizational standpoint).
i think the idea is that some or even most traditional systems have become so unnecessarily complicated that the bureaucracies they've turned into are creating cogs in a machine so to speak out of their participants thus dehumanizing them. daos by nature replace the bureaucracy by codifying it and so they remove that dehumanizing aspect of such organizations. instead of people making low level and even trivial decisions, pieces of code can perform such tasks. while this will likely cut many jobs in the long run, it will encourage those affected to find more meaningful work for themselves, perhaps furthering the answer to your question.
Great stuff. I see the concepts of autonomous governance to be an absolute boon for humanity. I have an idea myself of using the concept of viable systems to create an autonomous organization dedicated to achieving economic goals for an intentional communuty model based on cybernetic principles. One thing that would be absolutely fascinating is seeing implementations of AI and machine learning to DAOs.
In other words - why wouldn't there be any value to utilize technology for governance, voting or smart contracts for decentralized community organizing - thereby ensuring responsible actions by all network members?

DAOs are basically blockchain based co-ops, I've seen a lot of criticism coming from the left towards the blockchain space but in my experience most aren't really aware of the revolutionary nature of the blockchain which comes precisely from DAOs. Clear rules on governance makes it so there is never undue power of some actors over others, I think the next "blockchain craze" will be DAOs, once ETH 2.0 launches and the transaction costs permit cheap voting then we'll see a big revolution of the space. There is a lot to be excited about!
@@pinetworkminer8377 To complement my previous response a bit, they don't really even think about DAOs. They don't understand, they don't engage, all they think of the blockchain is bitcoin. They see the blockchain as "another way" for rich people to get richer. The old visionaries of the left are all gone, from cybersyn to OGAS, to the microchip revolution of romania, that's all gone. Now a days the radical left is completely consumed in the cultural when I the tool of revolution has always been technological, I guess in a way a big part of it has to be in how the internet seems to have fallen into the hands of the few... very discouraging... But we cannot do anything else but keep moving forward and dreaming! Tons of exciting stuff going on in blockchain!
@@MrNagano00 Yeah, r/cryptoleftists is only 5.6k right now, and people the blockchain socialist are pretty few and far between it seems at the moment. To be honest, though, the proof-of-work and proof-of-stake for crypto it's self are pretty antithetical to combating climate change and fighting against the accumulation of capital, so there is a no clear ethical win when moving to crypto based tech.
Methinks "undue power of some actors over others" may be the least of the worries. Bigger concern may be apparent authority to act and bind the DAO and its members. Personal liability exposure for the conduct of the DAO has to be thought through.
