I literally went looking for this… because after being brainwashed by decluttering and minimalism, I realized that it’s just part of my consumption problem. I just keep getting rid of things. It’s wasteful and I have less and less of things to look back on. I need to have that minimalist approach to aquire less. And I’m a that trying to hold on to things! I want to have things for years and years like my parents.

I think people definitely misuse and overuse decluttering to compensate for over consumption but I’m also so here for channels where the person is doing a once and for all declutter that also helps them curb shopping!

This is an interesting perspective to me and I think a lot of the points you made are important to consider, especially regarding overconsumption and treating low cost items as “rentals” or expendable. However, I do think (or at least hope) that people who are constantly buying new stuff to be trendy only to get rid of it shortly and replace it with more new stuff are in the minority. And as you said, it also comes with privilege to be able to afford such a lifestyle, as most of us out here have to budget and be careful with our money. All that being said, I have also come to a new perspective recently on letting go of items. I have never been a particularly sentimental person in regards to items, but I have long been reluctant to get rid of things for fear of “wasting” money spent long in the past on them. I have given myself permission to let go of things I genuinely don’t need or have use for anymore and aren’t special and it has lifted an emotional load off of my shoulders. I don’t have a lot of items in particular anyways and very much don’t buy new things, but even knowing that I have the mental ability to get rid of things has been a strangely freeing feeling to have.
