Development Victoria is shaping the way Victorians live now and for generations to come. We revitalise publicly owned land and buildings to create homes and spaces that help to make Victoria a better place to live. Development Victoria was established in 2017 from the coming together of Major Projects Victoria and Places Victoria. This channel showcases some of our favourite projects and initiatives.
That’s nice, but…..I’m watching this video from the down end of Flinders Street Station platform 5. The brick wall across from me is so severely dilapidated it looks ready to fall down at any moment. I can pick up individual bricks. The scene in front of me comprises a trash pile of abandoned building materials, heavily sooted exposed wires and an assortment of various clashing support structures for the Prince Bridge. How about we fix the parts of Flinders Street station people actually have access to…..before one of these loose bricks falls on a baby’s head. Regards - some rail worker.
Strange, maybe not. I got a tad emotional watching near the end. I remember mum , born 1920 talking about meeting her best friend under the clocks. Then I did as a teenager. Nan born 1895 would have seen it at a young age and living in Carlton and catching the bus to the city., or we’d walk down. Yes Nan lived till after I had my first child in 1976. Mum passed aged 95 oh the stories they’d tell us of Carlton and the city - why didn’t we write them down.
From what I’ve found out, suburban - the contractor carrying out West Gate Tunnel took the land away from the proposed developer, western connection. Dan Andrew’s government was elected and the suburban was given the green light, cancelling/delaying this project. Once the West Gate Tunnel is complete I can see this suburb being developed.

We fixed couple doors and stuff years ago and its so beautiful inside there. Be good to 100% restore the ballroom to its original glory. I could replicate it and the flooring pretty well
ANd yet developers want to keep tearing down these beautiful buildings and rebuilding ugly pos ons when all they need to do is rebuild them with old fashioned looking exterior. thats all we want. Old style melbourne charm with new internals. but noooooo, the sundown clause prevents this
you’ve removed so much seating! if this is a social public space supporting social inclusion why aren’t there places to sit while waiting for friends in the welcome foyer? why have you removed all the seating in the main room, so many seats were constantly taken up even though they were horridly uncomfortable little arm chairs. what is your reason for making every one stand??
Careful with Z1 58!! I wonder what the purpose of this was and why not it with its original wheel boogies?! But I removing them made it easier to tractor to shunt it around I guess and it is even still around or is it scrapped?!...I miss the Z1 class trams, still my favourite old school melbourne tram....
Hi Max T, The Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust was established on 5 October 1995 in accordance with the provisions of the Melbourne & Olympic Parks Act 1985 (as amended). It was created by the merger of the National Tennis Centre Trust (established 13 November 1985) and the Olympic Park Committee of Management (formed originally in 1909). Under the Act the relevant Minister is the Honourable John Eren MP, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events. Melbourne & Olympic Parks operates to provide world class facilities and ancillary services, for the conduct of sport, entertainment and function events, primarily for the people of the State of Victoria. Melbourne Airport however, is owned by Australia Pacific Airports Corporation Limited (APAC). APAC is a privately held corporation owned by institutional investors, predominantly superannuation/ pension funds. The funds are owned, managed or represented by the following five entities: AMP, IFM Investors, Future Fund, SAS Trustee Corporation and Utilities of Australia. For the 2018 financial year, APAC returned $314.9 million in Profit after Tax and paid dividends of $245 million to shareholders. $245 million! THIS is why Melbourne Airport is not even remotely close to world class, whereas Melbourne Park undoubtedly is.
The main focus of "THE STATION" ' is the dome ..as grotty as ever. Shameful .Spent $100 million and did not clean or preferably re copper the dome. That is the main feature of the whole place. Was it really that hard to do ...? A lost opportunity. .
