I really loved the sound of the DW snare a lot more than the Ludwig, basically because the DW didn't have as much ring to it as much as the Ludwig snare had. The Black Beauty sounded too hollow and reverberant to me and I didn't like that.
For me the best China cymbal in the world is my 2002 16" China. It gives me the exact sound im used to hearing off my favorite records but it does it in person with out any audio editing trickery.
I use a wide variety of drumsticks and they do sound different on drums at least for me and on cymbals wood tips for me give me a dark sound, but on the other side of the spectrum 91 tips give me a brighter sound and sometimes it’s good to have both the darker the sound the mysterious it is the brighter the sound the more happy
I am also a huge fan of the Zildjin swish knocker I have always loved that sound and a lot of my favorite drummers have or had them. Perfect example is Buddy Rich Buddy Rich had a thick swish knocker without rivets, and it was drummer Mel Lewis that talked him into getting one
Are all Boshporus cymbals supposed to have a Turkish- lmprint on the cymbal, for authenticity? I just received a used Bosphorus Full-Crash 18" Gold-Series Cymbal, ln the mail and l don't see any Stamped-Imprints on it.
I have to admit that I guessed correctly which was which but mostly because I'm pretty familiar with the Black Beauty having owned two of them by now. As always, great video, Cole!
After the first clip I knew A is the Ludwig. I have a 20's Ludwig super sensitive and the wonky overtones are the same. The Dialtune sounds powerful, would love to try one out!
I liked the focus of the black beauty, would definitely suit some funk playing very well. The resonance and overtones of the Dialtune would be great for bigger or louder mixes I think, such as a worship team, country band, or maybe a pep band playing in an arena!
The Dialtune would be my favourite ever snare to own, as I love their tuning system & Black Nickel over Brass or their clear Acrylic shell variant would both be awesome to own \m/
