@@Anolytic well I heard they made it free on steam few months a go. Maybe there is some players currently ;) I would love to join too but I play mostly at PS4. Don't want to sit for long in chair - its bad for health. So I changed platform ;)

they definitely made the ai harder since this video for some reason. the ai in this video is brain dead. now i play perfectly and cant kill it before the time runs out lmfao
Right hand panel you see firepower and melee. When the AI is using muskets/grenades you'll see a number next to firepower (brace to counter), when he is attacking you'll see a number next to melee (defend to counter). Make sure to counter his move at the last second or the AI will change its mind.
Hmm, seems like teh AI behaves differently than this video. Enemy is quite strong does a fair more amount of damage too. I tried several approaches and the one that worked was to kite them one by one. Lucky shots demasted the first which fell back then I kited the second which lost 2 masts from a broadside. By that time the first one was far behind so I turned around and boarded the second one, then finished the first with cannon ball, total time was 1h02min. I think a new video maybe needed.
This was really a tough exam. You make it look so easy. lol Had to repeat 3-4 times. I noticed that your aiming indicators are actually very clear. How do we do this? Mine are not clear to see and take on the shape of the waves while in your video they are straight and bright....I finally succeeded at 9min37sec
It's not really bypassing anything, nor any trick. Part of the lesson is seeing that the AI in this mission is so much inferior to you that you don't have to go through the stages before boarding it, you can go straight for it. It's the same thing in PvP sometimes. And as for the boarding. It's a rock-paper-scissors-mechanic. With open cards and 15 sec rounds. So you can use that to your advantage the same way against AI as against players, only AI is more predictable and usually plays 2D, not 3D. But you will find that sometimes the AI does last second changes as well, and sometimes it will do unpredictable things.
@@Anolytic Thank you. We cannot see what the AI will choose now do we? It is more about observing the Log of actions and trying to predict what they will do next right? Like I notice that Firing Guns has 3 rounds cooldown so do Muskets so it came to a point where I almost knew what the AI will do next as an informed guess I suppose since I could see what was on cooldown for the AI. Then it is a question of managing Preparation it seems. I am not sure how all this will go in PvP though...lets see :)
On the one hand I am happy to see this explanation of how to beat the damn exam (thanks VERY much for posting it). On the other, I'm furious that the tutorial teaches you that you need to remove the enemy hull armor, then reduce the crew with grapeshot, then get both of you to <3.5kn, then grap[ple and board, then go thru several rounds of deck guns, grapeshot/muskets and finally attack to win. Also, for some unknown reason, you have 10 mins to accomplish this in the exam, even though you are on the open ocean and the sun will be up all day. What a lousy introduction to the game system, for a new playerr.
I did it according to the tutorial, removing planking firing a couple grape and slowly pushing the enemy in to the wind to slow em and boarded. My time was 6min20sec
I shot 1 broadside of chain in 1, made a run for it and used the stern cannons to demast both before comming in for a good stern raking. Took 45 mins but revenge was served.
The video is old, yes. And the AI has changed behaviour a bit. Due to a harddrive with my editing tools being on the fritz I've not been able to make updated tutorial videos since release.
