False on Jordan Clarkson. JC's mom is Filipina. She's from Pampanga. However, the FIBA committee denied him to play as a normal player because his Philippine passport was not dated before his 16th birthday.
The idea that you can only represent your country if you lived there most of your minor age is idiotic and a privileged take. Most people not from wealthy countries don't have the option to stay in their home country. Many face political oppression, poverty, discrimination, and violence and have to flee somewhere else while still retaining their ethnicity, culture, and patriotism. it's not a black and white issue. Guys like Giannis for example were STATELESS as his parents escaped Nigeria and was given an exception to have Greek citizenship specifically so he could represent Greece. Had Giannis not taken the deal, his career wouldn't have gone anywhere and he wouldn't have been allowed to go abroad and likely would face major issues doing basic things in life.
I dont think so much energy should be put into the exceptions as if they are the norm. Yeah that Wikipedia list of naturalized players was long but compared to the players who did it the "right way", its a small %
Yo, I've been liking your content so far. One idea I would like to see is the most random players to have breakout games/seasons and how those games will affect their careers. Examples being Dante Exum vs the Lakers, Dean Wade vs Celtics, Malachi Flynn vs the Hawks, etc.
@@whatslaps what bojan? 🙄 Bojan Bogdanovic is Croatian. Bogdan Bogdanovic, Nikola Jovic, Vasilje Micic and Aleksej Pokusevski all play in the NBA and for Serbian national team.
The rules are a total joke, if you don't speak the language and one of your parents wasn't born in country, I think you shouldn't be able to play for that country. I mean you already have leagues where you can switch your team every year national teams should mean something. But when it comes to international sports there's so much politics involved it's just revolting and insulting
According to GMs there’s no such thing as a bad GM. If it was a bad personnel decision it’s always because of ownership. And if it was a brilliant move it’s because the GM is a genius.
I just don't get how all of the pride got sucked out of Olympic basketball... Embiid should be proud to represent his country. Its not about just winning, its about winning for your country. Otherwise it means nothing
@@whatslaps agree. The national pride is all over the Olympics. Its probably the dominance of the USA in basketball that made it irrelevant and not a REAL Olympic event
They gotta nerf team usa just for some entertainment. Limit the selection to college guys and 1st n 2nd years, have them constantly play international tourneys to build chemistry and see how it goes
I find the same thing happens in international rugby, guys that have no connection to the country move over just to play for an international team. I don't blame them for it, but it really does diminish the international game for me
With jjj, he may get a little exception because he also shoots the most threes out of any center with top 8 efficiency, 32%, with the 4th most makes. I’m not sure if you were taking into consideration the three, but he is not a bad offensive center by any means.
Here's the counter to the "what say do YOU have what team I play for?" that I thought you were going to use based on the start of the video: it makes me care less about international basketball! Which is bad! Plus with world class players like Embiid defecting to already stacked teams, the precedent is set for even worse disloyalty. And it's a damn shame for Cameroon; Embiid and Siakam together could have qualified for the Olympics.
That's exactly what I'm saying, it feels a little bit embarrassing as an American. Like we're poaching athletes from other countries. Feels a bit imperialistic.
I think it’s all kinda nonsense. The NBA is majorly in the USA, and it fosters and trains up many of these stars who now spend most of their time in the USA. To then go back to a diff country and try to act like it’s a representation of what each country has to offer.. is kind of strange and does not equate at all to any of the other sports. With Embiid as an example, he was 15 when he started playing basketball, got discovered by an NBA player, then moved to the USA at 16 to develop that skill. In that case, IMO it does make a more sense for him to represent the USA.
I would but I've touched on his buyout a lot in other videos. He gets traded there because the Jazz get assets from receiving his contract and they don't care about the cap hit since they're not over the taxline and don't need to make good use of the space (they're rebuilding)
