I've probably killed hundreds of plants that I've grown indoors or bought from the nursery, because I didn't know about "Plant Hardening". I hope this video helps everyone to know about the importance of plant hardening, and this new process makes it easier as well.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm an electrical engineer who also likes to use technology to garden, so seeing the Edison estate was very cool. My channel is all about using technology in agriculture and gardening - please consider subscribing!

You really think a different coloured handle will automatically make a tool show up... How about after a job you put away your tools in their allocated storage places. Don't want my tools to look like Little Tykes Toy Tools....
@Vegetronix

Perhaps it's my bad eyesight or the size of my vegetable garden but I'm constantly losing my tools as I use them. I'll set them down, turn away, and it's as if garden gnomes have stolen them. My wife suggested using a garden tool belt. I'm coming at this issue as an engineer - so I care more about functionality than appearances, but understand other's may appreciate appearance over functionality.

My kids are always leaving my garden tools in the tall grass to get run over with the lawn mower. This will make them more visible so that hopefully doesn't happen! Thanks!

I happen to have the same problem with my kids. Last month - my 7 year old left a black handled clipper in the grass, and a I ran it over with the lawn mower, completely destroying the tool. Had I used this hack - I would have easily seen it.

The AquaPlumb is totally unique - it measures the full depth range using a piece of wire. The output voltage is linear with the water level. So it doesn't just tell you if the tank is empty, but how much is left in it. It can measure tanks up to 3 meters in depth. Is low power, and has not moving parts to wear out or break. You can cut the wire to any length so that it matches your tank. For more information on how it works, and why it's unique see this link: www.vegetronix.com/Products/AquaPlumb/

Great idea! One detail, how hard it would be to include something like a toilet valve? You know, stick a rubber pipe in a side and have it refill the water anytime it goes under set level? Then you have to refill a bucket that is connected to ~10 of those cups once in a week (bucket in this case means water reservoir, maybe bucket, can, canister,... I wouldn't go with connecting it to house water pipe, because I wouldn't want too much pressure in this system and also you don't want "fresh" water (at least I was always told to let the water sit for a while before using it for watering plants)).

I love the idea. I wonder, would something like a corkscrew work? You know, something to pull the roots out.
@Vegetronix
@Vegetronix 3 месяца назад
If the end mill is long enough you can obliterate the tap root by merely drilling into the soil with a couple of quick presses. I show this in the video, but should have called it out better with a note. The cork screw is an interesting idea and might work, but not sure where to get one. The end mill is very easy to obtain and try out. You can a "1/2 inch end mill" from amazon for about $9 delivered same day, and try this out yourself.
@simonspacek3670
@simonspacek3670 3 месяца назад
@@Vegetronix You know what? I think that I saw some old broken corkscrew not that long ago. If I find it, I will give it a try. After all, what is the worst possible outcome? Broken corkscrew?

Pretty neat idea. But... Hear me out... You could just pull it in the same amount of time. On a side note I would recommend trying a paddle bit. Might do more damage?

For vegetables in the summer, it is recommend applying about 1 inch of water over the surface area of the garden bed per week. That is equivalent to 0.623 gallons per sq ft. At this rate, what would the reading be?

So, if you want to know how to keep your plants from wilting, just knowing the soil moisture content from a sensor is not enough. "Plant available water" is, weirdly, water pressure. Sensors that measure that for damp soil are very expensive or expensive and have big margins of error.
