Wow, great toy. Food toys and balls reeally stimulate her mind as well as provide her with positive reinforcement. They are a great way to prevent boredom on rainy and snowy days. Well done! My dog loved his food ball.
Yes these toys are great especially now that Isla cant zoom around like usual because of the surgery about three weeks ago. She gets frustrated and barks a lot when she cant consume the energy she has so it is nice to make her solve these kinds of puzzles 👍
thank you for this honest report. We're currently thinking bout having a smooth collie. However, we're living next to a lake and spend quite some time in and on the water. I know Collies are no labbis, but can they get used to water and swimming as well?
Yes, I would say. Depends a lot though about the individual dog. Our first smoothie would never touch water or swim and the current one absolutely loves swimming. Maybe it is inherited, I don't know 🤔 If I were you I would talk with the breeder about the puppies moms / dads preferences whether they swim or not. They are very lovely dogs and a lot of fun to have around. Some of them might bark a lot but I think it is in the herd dogs nature to at least bark sometimes 😄 I have put some swimming videos of our current smoothie on my channel, feel free to have a look👌
@@tetra3ne56scur3 No need for for the cone unless she has to be alone. Sometimes we make her wear it in the night, because she likes to lick and bite her leg and if we are asleep we might not wake up to it 👌
She had a tendon on her hind leg that tore / was misplaced so the surgeon had to put it back on place ant reattach it. There is a video on my YT page about it, I think it is by the name "our dog needs a surgery".
Thanks ☺️ With her mindset of a teenage supersonic missle, resting sometimes does not seem to be her top priority 😄 She luckily has understood to rest at least a little bit more than usual 👍
Get rid of the horrible cone and fold a towel into thirds and secure it with duct tape around the neck. It stops them from reaching the area the shouldn't and is way more comfortable. The can easily drink and eat too.
Thanks for the very nice comment 😁 She has a harness which we use all the time. Except for now of course when she has to wear the protective bubble after the surgery so she won't lick the pain medication bandage that is patched on her side. It has I think morphine or something on it, so licking it might be lethal. That is why the collar. Can't wear the harness even outside now because it could tear off the med-bandage. We actually bought her a new collar, that is why you see two collars on her in this video. My spouse had just come home from a pet store with the new collar and we tested it on her when I decided to take some footage of her. Sorry if it is confusing, english is not my first language so I really don't know whether the thing on her side is a bandage, bandaid, a batch or something like that =) Don't know about the guy who invented collars, but we are not masochists of any kind 😁👌 Take care 👍
Thank you 😇👌 She should be back to normal in about 6 weeks. Already improved a lot considerimg her surgery was yesterday 👌 Sunday it will help a lot to get the bucket out of her head, she is not a fan of that thing 😁
She is quite something 😄 Luckily she seems to be recovering quite nicely. She does not like the bucket in her head though 😁 Thanks for commenting and for the nice words ☺️
Hoping Isla gets better soon! I had a Tri-Smooth Collie who was my heart and was my best friend. Please buy the pet insurance. I didn't because I didn't think I needed it. I was definitely wrong. He ended up getting bloat because he ate too fast. The bill ended up being $13,000 US dollars. I ended up cashing in my retirement account to pay the bill. Unfortunately pure breeds are more expensive and more fragile. Please buy pet insurance now, and it will help you with future expenses later. My collie lived until 11 years old. I gave him a healthy diet recommended by the veterinarian, and active lifestyle and it did pay off.
Oh god, I thought we had it expensive here in Finland 😵💫 The insurances that I looked at last summer did not look very great policy wise. If I remember right, the monthly payments were quite high and if something expensive happens, they cover like 50% of the costs. So, a genius that I am, I thought that it would be very unlikely for her to have something like this happen 😄 At this point, I would have taken the 50% of the costs quite happily 🤷♂️ She is supposed to make a full recovery after about 6 weeks, which is great. I will upload a video about todays surgery tomorrow. Everything went fine and she seems to be surprisingly okay now even that she still has a lot of sedatives and other meds in her system. Glad to hear that you have had a smoothie also, they are a lovely breed I think. Active, intelligent, social and so on. It seems expensive could be now added to that list. Thank you for commenting ☺️
Thank you very much 👍 The doctor doing the surgery seemed very professional and we will be home taking care of the patient for the next three weeks so all things considered I am hopeful to see a soeedy recovery 👍
Thank you 👌 I am sure everything will be fine eventually 😇 Just some rough weeks coming for the dog because of her energy is always up and now she cant do much but rest 🤔
My smooth collie was very maternal. She would go into what I called false heat, she was fixed. To get her over this time we’d give her a kitten when one was available. She would guard the ducks nest that was on the edge of the creek that ran by our house. Not that the ducks weren’t happy about this. She would herd any deer that came near the house, more then once I came out to go to work and there she was holding a deer in the yard. I’d have to call her off.
Oh that is a great story, thank you for sharing 👍 Our girl gets a little weird during her heat, but nothing like that though. What do you mean by "false heat"? I am just curious 😄 So she actually was not in heat but acted like it anyway? Isla has had some strange behaviour after her heat but luckily the animals (squirrels, bunnies and so on) nearby have not had to suffer from her antics so far 👌😄
Glad to hear the sound quality was good. Saw them at MetLife last year and sound wasn’t that great. I mean it Wasn’t bad and still a great show but the sound could’ve been a bit more clear..not sure if MetLife stadium sucks or not only time I’ve been there but I don’t know if new sound guy is good as mick was.
The two times that I had seen them before in the same stadium, I was sitting a lot higher. So I was not that far from the stage this time as earlier. That could be one reason also. I remember the first time I went to the olympic stadium to see metallica, could have been around 2004 or something, the wind was playing with the sound a lot. This time it was very crisp and clear 👌
Just a thought, we invested in a doggy daycare not too far away from our home. It gave our collie lots of friends and play time while I was away. It was not very expensive and it eliminated all the stress and anxiety for both of us. He came home tired and happy, and we loved our alone time also.
If my dog's do that it's because they are rolling in something stinky. Next is either a bath or trip to the pond depending on which dog rolls in the stinky stuff. Hope that wasn't the case for you.
I dont really know what triggers her into doing this. Now that the ground is no more frozen, I guess all kinds of smells pop around. Luckily she is not rolling around in a horse poop or something 😄 It is usually just dry dirt in the forest. She must smell something in it I think, but luckily our human noses are so bad that we cant smell anything out of the ordinary in her fur after she is done rolling 👍
