I live the idea of pencil on one side and paintings on the other. I haven’t seen anyone else do that. Lovely delicate paintings 😊

Thank you. 😊 Yes it was like a warm-up or generating ideas and then a 'finished' painting on the other page.

It's the Etchr Mini Palette (19 wells), I did a review of it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v_5-V_afF30.html and bought it from Jackson's Art: www.jacksonsart.com/en-au/etchr-mini-palette

If you're wondering what happened to Makuru (June - July) then don't worry, you haven't missed it! I was away overseas during that season and didn't make a video. (No, it's not because it was just raining the whole time!)😜Maybe next Makuru I'll record a video to complete the seasons.

What's your favourite drawing? I think mine is the buff-banded rail or Australasian darter. Interested in seeing some nature journaling book reviews on this channel? Comment below, also if you have suggestions for what I should do for Inktober 2024! :D

Wow, nice video Kim! I would be way too scared to go camping with all those animals around :D
@KimsNJAdventures

Ah they're not really that scary, not like we have crocodiles or bears there. Most dangerous would be snakes, and they usually stay away from humans. ;)

I never seen them hop as such. But I've seen them bounce forward. I dunno how to describe it. It's not quite a hop, but something close

Because while out painting i never have found a good mixing palette i like the 18--- 1/2 pan tin palette from schminke. With a clip i can attach it to my board. I also have ripped apart a cheap watercolor palette ( bought from wish) that i popped out the thin slightly larger than full pans and i tacked these to a plastic that fits into the schminke palette when i take out the metal tray that holds the 1/2 pans. I stack 2 in the tin and wind up with 24 colors plus i have space for a couple 1/4 pans for colors i seldom use to mix for different shades of a color. I hope this made sense...ps i like using a 10- 12 paint brush..

@marjoriejohnson6535 Год назад
@KimsNJAdventures ps. The only place I know to order the schmincke 18 half pan palette empty is WET PAINT an art store that is on line from the Midwest. And it balances perfectly for me in my hand when I have to stand.

A perfect idea to combine nature journaling with the description and introduction and filming the organism that you journal. (plants may be easier but I love the idea of animals of Australia). I have never heard of numbats and I am a biologist 🙈. I will look it up soon and hopefully find more information. There is so much more in the world than you expect. From kangaroos I know, that the newborn is only a few centimeters long and very embryolike - therefore perhaps the short pregnancy. They crawl into the mothers pouch and "freeze" to one of the nibbles until they are bigger, more like a little kangaroo and can leave first the nibble and then the pouch more and more. I this way the pregnancy go's on in the pouch for a certain time. I would like to see more of your journaling if you don't mind. Thank you for your videos, Kim, and this one in particular. Oh, I just looked up the difference between the English words gestation and pregnancy. And in the case of the numbats it is gestation, as fare as I understand, because pregnancy refers to the uterus, which marsupials don't have.
@KimsNJAdventures
@KimsNJAdventures Год назад
Thanks Schuhu, I'm glad you like the format and finding out about numbats. Yes the newborns are tiny and furless yet can crawl to the nipple and hold on, so incredible! Yes it's gestation, but I didn't realise the difference in definition with pregnancy. I will try and film more of my journaling in future episodes. 😊

I admire your patience in capturing this very cute numbat. Lovely to see it in the end complete with its bushy tail. I thought it would not show itself all the way😊

What beautiful animals. Was it difficult tracking one down to get that footage? With only 1000 living in the wild I would assume you have to get quite lucky. (This is Chris from Switzerland by the way.)

I enjoyed this! They are so cute! I was shocked when you said their gestation is only 15 days! Maybe that’s normal for marsupials, I don’t know but wow, you wouldn’t have much time to get used to the idea of becoming a mum! Haha

I’ve never used ceramic palette (so I literally don’t know what I’m missing haha), but for painting out and about I’d definitely prefer just having one item to manage rather than the multiple pieces. My palette is one I “made” myself. I’ve got 15 half pans attached with magnets inside a small tin which originally had mints in it. The lid is hinged and I use that for mixing. I love it and use it at home too.

This is the first one of your videos that I’ve seen. I did inktober for the first time last year and I also used a handmade book with brown paper! But stupidly I forgot about using a white pen (which was why I used brown paper in the first place haha). I love seeing when other people have made their own books too! I don’t specifically do a “nature journal”, just whatever catches my eye whether natural or man made, but I’d like to include more nature journal style pages in my sketchbooks. My art kit is in a smaller bag, but I’m in the uk and have less extreme weather and safety precautions to carry with me.

For my travel palette I made up my own from a blister of tabletts, which I filled with the colours of tubes of my choice and the number of colors I like. I glued the blister into some sort of flat plastic container which oniginally might have been for business cards. And I glued a kind of pop socket ring on the backside. For bigger paintings at home I like porcelain dishes, which have compartments (i.e. Fondue, Snacks, dishes from hospital). I get them very cheap from a second hand store or flea market.

I think the etchr set is gorgeous but I think I'd somehow drop it and break them as I'm a clutz! 😅... the cotman pocket box is so well designed and for plein air work 12 colours is more than enough. I've had lessons with a professional artist who only uses 8 well chosen pigments. But I also love the little bijou box from Cornellissen I can fit 14 half pans in if I turn top and bottom upwards and remove the bars. I use magnetic tape to hold them secure. Then, any small plastic mixing palette or small holbein style palette for additional mixing space is all you need. But I enjoyed your review. The etchr is one of those gifts things you want but don't need ❤
@KimsNJAdventures
@KimsNJAdventures Год назад
Thank you, yes the Etchr palette is probably not the best if you tend to drop or knock things. 😅 Where do you get the magnetic tape from?

Where I am right now, San Diego, California, the mockingbirds just started making lots of noise and singing in a tree near me. The house finches are also seemingly busy and getting their breeding colors. Several fruit trees are budding out such as peach and apricot.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing Marley. It feels weird that I can't imagine what the mockingbird sounds like or the house finch breeding colours look like, but I'm sure it's much more familiar to many people than some from this video! 😄
