At one time the land was relatively cheap. No more.I used to have a pass into the Hollister Ranch '69-'70 for surfing purposes (you can see the perfect uncrowded surf). In 1970 the Pennsylvania Railroad who owned the ranch put 100 acre parcels up for sale for $100K each. Imagine that. Some of my surf buddies pooled their money together and bought the parcels and divided them up amongst themselves. That is what these estates are now derived from probably worth 20 millions or so each. This one portrayed even has a vineyard. There are other spectacular palatial properties like this in Big Sur and along the Marin County Coast.
