@@OliverAisthorpe there is an English version already on RU-vid, but it's got the American voice Actors, unfortunately I have no way of getting the English voice Actors dub on here 😔
A comic moment with Toht: in Marion's presence, Toht appears to be taking out a torture implement which has her recoiling in fear, until it's revealed to be nothing more than a coat hanger. I remember the audience laughing at that twist!
Ronald was a brilliant character who played lots of creepy characters. Often in those old ITC classics. "Raiders" may have been his most famous and iconic role, but I remember him in loads of other films and TV episodes. Some practically forgotten, like ITV's short run Sci Fi spoof, "The Adventures of Don Quick". I think the only existing episode can be viewed on RU-vid. His daughter Rebecca became an actress too, and appeared in "Holby City" among other things
Yeah, it’s really funny the odd numbered Indiana Jones films had Nazis while the even numbered films were other types (The Thuggee Kali Cult in 2 and the Soviets in 4)
Ronald Lacey was really the genius who created the Toht character as we know him. The line between evil and comical is pulled off perfectly. He was also in How I Won The War with John Lennon. There’s a photo or two of Lennon giving a young (and blond) Lacey a haircut (look it up!) Thanks for the video!
What I like about Scroop is that he is a rare example of the henchman being MORE evil than the main villain. The henchmen have often been tricked or forced into helping the main villain. Sometimes it is revealed that they are in fact good-natured people (take Kronk from Emperors New Groove). Silver despite his flaws shows redeeming qualities, Scroop however proves to be irredeemably evil.
He's my favourite villain. Charismatic, photogenic, and impeccable fashion sense. Having said that, he doesn't have much to do in the story. After his initial appearance in Marion's bar, he just kinda hangs around until the big finale.
@@ArnoldTohtFan Yeah, I noticed that, but he was going to get killed off much earlier originally, luckily he didn't because we wouldn't have that iconic death scene! 😧💀
Ronald Lacey was well known on British TV since the 1960s. "Who's a Good Boy, Then?" was the TV play that launched that catchphrase and whenever we saw Lacey playing any other part we all shouted at the TV" Who's a Good Boy, Then?"😁 His other big role was as the slimey character in the successful TV comedy "Porridge".
Great analysis but I have to pick you up on a few things: it's Reece SHearsmith, not Sir Smith, also Hilary Briss not Bliss (the former being a religious ritual performed on young men - geddit: sausages?!). Hypnosis not hypnosism (not a word) is another one. Mark Gatiss also said in an interview that his surname is pronounced "Gaytiss" which is quite fitting 😊 (I'm sure he wouldn't be offended by that comment) Yes, I'm a pedant but a well meaning one! Also, I got here via Weelin.
Who else is here thanks to @WeeLin? 🤣 I always appreciate suggestions for new content on classic british TV. I will be subscribing for more, good job on a great video, I look forward to seeing more from you!
Oh Action Man 🙂 I remember seeing bits of the TV show they did, the toys of course, but I wasn't really aware of the games. The Max Steel toys had a similar marketing strategy, though I dont know if that line had any games 🤔
Solid video, though one fatal flaw in the "unspeakable choice" Thirteen is given... She really just says "This what I'm gonna do!" and then shirks the choice off onto the player. And even then it isn't a choice because there's only one set ending! Definitely a bit better than what Ashad got... but it effectively boils down to Thirteen just saying "Nahh, kill him."
It's very true sadly - also despite the shows success in other countries, it only did so well in the USA - somewhere youd want to do well in because of how large the market is - as it didn't show on one channel like for example in the UK, rather in syndication, resulting in the second season not even being shown in America I don't believe. Luckily it's getting some more attention put back to it now 🙂
Thank you so much! I loved your Local Histories videos, I tried to put in the same amount of effort with the research and footage, it was difficult but I'm hoping my information was accurate enough 😁
It's all I can think of doing, I don't want to stop talking about it but there's nothing official left to talk about, I'll try not to go 'over board ' with the theories and I'll only talk about fan fiction that I think would work in the setting.
Something I always wanted from the game was to play as Lightning knights other than Ace, or even swap sides and you could play as the villains, just for something different and have Kilobyte in there too, even have a haunted golf course and or bowling alley, like Rotgut and Googler had, even something more for Anvil and Pigface to do 🤔
How about for a third game, a free for all fighting game? Like Smash Bros but with Ace Lightning characters? Actually since the series is about video games, why not have the other games be different genres! Love to see how a racing game would look! 🤣...if only 😔
@MRWALL.i6732 I know! Did you ever play the Ace Lightning Game boy Advance Game? There's gameplay on RU-vid, a log flume level I think, also I think Sparx was partly playable in that version and a big boss near the end in the haunted house was Dracula! 😅🧛♂️🧛♀️
@@WilliamHaywardPainter Correct! Sparx was playable in Tunnel Of Love and while Ace is fighting Lady Illusion, Sparx sometimes takes over as the playable hero!
Great to see another Ace Lightning video, James! The 26 episode DVD for season 1, which came out in Hong Kong and they had a similar set in Indonesia, I believe is the source for the first set of RU-vid uploads, then for Season 2 I found a Russian dub with a network logo, higher quality but its a shame its not in the original language - I hear they were showing Ace on TV in Russia until 2011, or on and off until then, so that's pretty cool
Wow! Hong Kong! and Russia! it's so weird that this show was shown in other counties, it always felt like a little corner on TV that certain people in the UK knew about
@MRWALL.i6732 I know, it's crazy! Germany, Greece, Australia, South Africa, it pretty much went everywhere, was super successful for that brief time, but having spent so much producing the video game, the BBC couldn't keep funding the show as it was difficult to turn a profit from the game - also the old CBBC logo is very nostalgic for me 😀
What's intetesting is season 2 uses footage from this game, rather than have the graphics look like they did in season 1, which could be a commercial tie-in, also saves on budget to use animation in that style from the VFX house doing the CGI. Also explains why Rotgut is in season 2 at all as there are zombie cowboy enemies in the game 😂
Fantastic work! You pronounced the producers names, Rick Siggelkow and Jim Corston really well - Rick Siggel-Coe and Jim Course-Tun - thanks for the shoutout, bud! Appreciate it, we'll need to collab someday!
Honestly, the season 2 ending had me excited for a season 3. It felt incomplete the way it ended. Meanwhile in Season 1, it actually came to an end. But hey, I enjoyed season 2 but would've really loved a season 3…
@MrShadesD That's very true, my thoughts exactly - Rick Siggelkow who produced the show was pretty confident season 3 would get made, but it was all financial and the lower ratings in the USA and merch sales (for example the PC/PS2 Game based on the show) that meant season 3 couldn't be funded. I was talking to Mark Leiren-Young about this, one of the writers for Ace, on my channel and we both wished more came after season 2, such potential
@@WilliamHaywardPainter I would’ve made it regardless of ratings! Was so patient for so long but got older then realised it’s not coming back. When I read what Season 3 was gonna be like, it sounded so awesome! I’m glad I’m not the only dedicated fan of Ace Lightning! I do hope it gets rebooted at least. Maybe they could get Mark and Chuck back played by the same actors and it could be more for older viewers. And set years after Season 2.
