this is so late but this is their weakest project yet. MY OPINION there must be a new A&R team bc this album felt like a caricature of what the “red velvet sound” is. there’s little to no conceptual through-lines, for some of their older projects at least there was a main vibe (the red - interesting pop music that bordered on almost experimental, rookie/russian roulette- pop-py but also some big band pop influences, the summer albums - bright songs with maybe 1 ballad but still varied energetic songs.) later on these album concepts would be mashed together to give the illusion of a fully thought out project (the reve festival birthday ep). but chill kill just feels so lost and uninteresting, there’s no connection or direction to the tracklist, it feels like a playlist someone put together and said “here, enjoy i guess.” also the 2015 h&m/f21 edm is such an odd inspo to pull from.
maybe the concept is “dark, winter, eerie but r&b focused” but literally the perfect velvet/the perfect red velvet does that 100 times better and there’s actually interesting production on all of the songs (except moonlight melody bc it’s a ballad focusing on the members voices)
