BI22LE's ongoing adventures as a kit car owning, track day loving auto enthusiast! Videos about running and maintianing kit cars and all the fun had along the way!
@@MegaSKAGGS it's fine, love the feedback. Ill try and feature a Lotus Emira soon. That's a decent supercar for you. I like anything that is fast on track and modified. Unfortunately supercars are often not used in a way they were designed for, by people who are not actually that interested in cars. Shame really.
@@MegaSKAGGS most of these cars are a fraction of the cost and just as fast. Added bonus is that strangers don't think you are a .... Of course if I owned a lambo, it would feature on my channel 🤣
Happy days, are you active on any striker or kit car forums? I'm wondering if we have conversed or I have seen your cars in the past. I assume you are UK based.
Was the wire pure copper ? no nasty CCA that can suffer with cold joints from soldering. dont doubt your past life as an auto-electricians soldering skills...
I was going to say fuel pump wiring or pressure regulator but then the video explained the fuel pressure was being monitored by a separate gauge so unlikely to be that. There are clearly some wiring issues that could be the problem but seems that the temporary set up would have eliminated that for this session so it points to the injectors. As you'd brought the old injectors with the you I was surprised you didn't put them back in while you were there and try a run - if it was consistent but running out of injector flow you would have known for sure the new injectors were the issue. If it was still all over the place with the old injectors you'd have more confidence in the new injectors being okay and the problem being elsewhere
@@daveparry1569 you are spot on as usual. I simply didn't think of putting the old injectors back in for diagnostic reasons, we probably could have tried that. They would have been too small to map full engine potential with so I would have needed a return visit regardless. At least I would have had something to point towards though. Regardless, injectors are being tested and I need to rewire the ECU so I'm just going to do it.
Check the fuel pressure regulator / or the log for fuel press if thats feeding into ECU. If its not raising pressure consistantly youll have this fluctuating AFRs and a fuel map youre constantly chasing. Also check all the gaskets on the intake are good and that youve got no air leaking / or cracked plastic fittings around the place.
I am wondering if I should change the FPR to a raising rate version. We did have a mechanical fuel pressure gauge (you can see it dangling on the wing mirror) and Troy was happy with it. But something is not right and fuel pressure is on the mix of common problems. Thanks for watching and your comments, very much appreciated. I'm all ears for any other thoughts.
@TeaNBizz-Kits stock FPR on 20v is rising rate - but they are pretty old now. When I've had wandering/ unstable AFRs it's been either the FPR, an air leak post throttle body or Chinese injectors.
@@Lexusturbo this is all stuff to be checked. During the RR session they ran a earth directly from the ECU to the battery negative. There is a good earth from battery to engine and another from engine to chassis. No battery to chassis earth though! I need to add this. Keep the thoughts coming, much appreciated
That's gutting after all that work but at least you have a direction. Getting the injectors tested is definitely the right thing. If you need advice on the Omex loom (wiring diagrams etc) it may be worth joining the WSCC as there's a great technical forum on there for members with a load of help and support. Most Westfields run the Omex system so plenty of knowledge in the club 👍
@TeaNBizz-Kits Hi, it's the WSCC website, the "Tech Talk" section there is members only but you'll get loads of help and advice if you need it. The club has a few Striker owners, a number running Rotrex and lots of Omex knowledge
Great video! Heard lots of good things about NMS and you can see he knows his stuff! Might take my new project there for the mapping. Projects are so stressful, why do we do it??? Stick with it mate, you will get there eventually! looking forward to the next vid already! All the best Jason.
@@Jagerbug74 thanks for tuning in and your kind words of support Jason. I highly recommend NMS especially for OMEX ECUs as they have so much knowledge and loads of backup stuff in stock to problem solve. Let us know how your project goes and if you want to feature on TnB please send me a message
Got there in the end. Glad you show the "warts and all" version of working on the car to better reflect what my (and I hope most people's) experience is. I'm pretty sure I'm not a complete numpty and neither are you but these issues do happen - usually when you are doing that extra hour when you should have finished ages ago!
I seem to be in the garage after work a lot (apart from this episode when I managed to get a weekend garage pass!). Late at night being tired and dirty is not fun. Mistakes happen, problems arise, you just have to be determined to get to that end goal. Thanks again for watching!
Thanks. I have sunk a lot of time and money into this "ready to use" car. Hopefully the clutch will hold out, hopefully my engine install will be ok, hopefully no new issues surface. . . . . tune in soon to find out 🤣
Glad you got her running! Drilling in and around the transmission tunnel always make me anxious with the fuel and brake lines..... An oli syringe and the Sealey Mini Pump (other makes available) are always useful tools to keep in the garage for those hard to reach fill up jobs 👍
@@brake_later it took ages filling up the GB with only gravity to aid me. I didn't even consider I may hit a line inside the tunnel as I thought the rivets would be going into small box section, still don't really know how I managed it. I was glad I got it running, so much drama with the starter, battery terminal and other wiring / sensor issues. We glossed over the non-starting bit at the end and played it down. That was hours and hours of panic and ended up in desperation of repeating crank sensors and wobbling wires. 😭🙄😬😲
7:27 is the oil take off for the cooler not thermostatic? If so a dry turn over may not fill the pipework as it won’t open till the thermostat is hot enough? Also on the filter front - what about fitting a remote oil filter?
@@Lexusturbo these are all great points, thanks for watching and contributing. It's NOT a thermostatic sandwich plate. I did have a thermo controlled one on but found it was too restrictive on track. I don't do much road driving and always give it an easy warm up so I it's fine. I did consider a remote filter kit. My concerns with this are many nowhere to put it but also with the Accusump, oil rad and then a remote filter I worry the stock oil pump will struggle. The filter does it's job and long term I want an over chassis exhaust to give me more space and better flow.
Huge fan of XCS Designs. The seven monster has anti camber compensation on both front and rear. The K24 engine they are importing from the USA - four piston racing - yup 1,000 hp. It will go well !!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-syL8nLG7QbE.html
Thank you very much. A little slow getting it edited and on YT but I think people have appreciated the wait. It was a great day, so many nice cars and people. Catch up soon, and thanks for the support.
Thank you very much. That was my main objective of the day and as you both said, they are really nice people. Stay tuned for a workshop tour, ride out and more with us and MK
20m:23s that’s my eco boost with the ‘UGLY ENGINE!’ 😅 Mind you you’re not wrong but my god, what an engine it is with that hybrid turbo. It’s a phenomenal car, I love the thing.
@@gavgaming7147 We an MK Indy with an R1 Bike engine. MENTAL !!! Every time I drive it - I need 5 mins to get my head in gear first !!! Best thing I ever bought.
Great video mate! Brilliant to meet you on the Saturday and taking the time to have a chat. Also, thanks for the mention and kind words about the Westfield Sports Car Club stand and our members cars 👍
Glad you are getting it sorted, as always our kits are a bit more complicated than the donor vehicles they came from 😂 Great info for anyone with the 4AGE engine 👍
It's been a 'mare with lots of 1st for me. We have some cracking episodes coming up showing the next steps of the journey and latest rolling road action. Stay tuned and thank you for your comment and support.

Nice vid, just for info I recently installed a TODA light weight Chrome-moly flywheel and matching clutch from Japan (200mm) on my bigport and couldn't be happier with it.
Did you watch my other video where I discovered I already had a lightened flywheel 🙄. I was gutted because I wanted to see the difference in lightening the flywheel. Glad to hear your build is going well. What you building and where you based if you don't mind me asking?

@@TeaNBizz-Kits Just a good old 1986 AE82. RMS, FMS, and cam seals needed replacing so pulled it out last year. I'm in Australia. Will watch your other video soon.
Thanks for watching in Aus. I think I have a few subscribers in Aus and NZ, if you was local I was going to ask to come and visit. Maybe feature your car. A bit far from London though 🤣. Do take a look at my other episodes, you may find them fun and interesting. Especially episodes on a 20v BT swapped Carolla and me working on my car. Maybe even some track action? Keep up the good work. 👊
I’m not entirely convinced the new friction plate won’t catch those eternal spring bars but that may have been the camera angle. Good informative vid though.
I think it was just the camera angle. The friction plate was exactly the same size as the friction surface of the spring basket. Which is the same size as the 20v one so if it fits within the diameter of one it should fit within the diameter of the other. Thanks for watching and your support. Very much appreciated
It was a pleasure talking to you too. We are hoping to get the Newark episode out in the next couple of weeks. Make sure you keep an eye out, your car, our chat and the WSCC stand will probably get some good screen time. Thanks for subscribing and watching. It means a lot to me, and even more so when I met subscribers
I think that "why you don't see certain cars in track" is probably answered by the fact that all of the cars you listed as seeing were those that were heavily modded and ragged round country lanes, car parks, and one way systems back in the 90's and 00's. Cars that people bought to see what they could do with them. The others are all comfy or fast mile munchers, wouldn't know what to do with a turn if it bit them.
This is true. Hot hatches are cheap(er) and very powerful now so capable on track. I think the other thing is that novice track dayers buy what is recommended to them, experienced track dayers want something which they have seen go fast on track. So it's a closed self fulfilling group of cars. Still think seven style cars won overall!!
Was at Castle Combe With Opentrack this Tuesday in the Locost (just posted my gopro footage, shameless plug!). They only have 12 cars out at a time at Combe so amazed to see how many are on track at Brands. Always liked the Arion S2 - isn't it based on a Striker chassis? if so basically the same as yours!
I'm surprised combe has so few, I haven't been but thought it was a big track. The Areon is a great little car and absolutely flies. It has some basis on the striker (JPSC) chassis, you are right, but AB Performance made a lot of changes and improvements to make it their own. Mike, the owner, didn't like the idea of it being at all like a striker chassis!
@@carllynch8798 in the west country right? I should try and get over there sometime as I want to do every track in the UK. My main problem is that it looks like a big circle. So lots of oil starvation, boring and uneven tyre wear. How do you find it?
Just a thought but would it not be good with some kind of seal betwen bottom of intercoller and radiator so the air dont go upp in that smal gap betwen them ? And to get better sealing for the air guides maby ad some self adhesive foam strips like house window seals or those foam strips they use for leveling concreat ?
I like your thinking, some of the gaps were big. Take a look at my other episodes on particular this one ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lj0uU3AGBq4.htmlsi=TyX2nVdlbKfXNyhz ) where I redesign and refit all the rads. Gaps are smaller but I do still need to do some cowling. I would love to hear your thoughts on the new rad / intercooler set up
while the fly wheel was off, you should have replaced the rear main seal. It wasnt leaking, but at least youd know the one in there is new, cheap insurance to not having to pull the engine and transmission apart again in the (possibly near) future.
Exactly what I was thinking but then I guess if the flywheel had been off not that long ago when someone fitted the first lightened one it might be a newish seal too and if it aint broke...
You mean Newark? I am trying to to plan for it, so yes. I have the rolling road next week, a busy life and it's along way from me. Weather could be good though which would be mega
Yeah sorry fat fingers and auto correct lol I know what you mean with busy life style/family. I just hoping rain stays away so get out in car for day out. Had pencilled in calendar since last years was not of wash out.
I am impact gun, wheel nuts and stuck stuff is a PITA at the moment. Electric ratchet is a good idea, if I get the Milwaukee M12 it may use the same batteries. Thanks for the advice.
I could probably do that. . . I'll add it to the list 🤣 I have had no issues with push on in the past and have covered many track miles so the benefits are minimal, untill you need to take the off!
I can not believe I have never heard of TTV. Their knowledge and customer support was very good. I hope their products are good, if so I'll be shouting their name from the rooftops
Thanks again! Well worth checking filters and familiarizing your self with a modified second hand car. I have no idea what to expect with this thing. I have 0 history on it!!
Saxo is looking sharp. Thanks for having me in the video and I'm glad you found the footage. Drop me a text again if you have, my phone has been on the play up!
Thanks for letting me know, it will all get taken back off and re jigged. A great excuse for a 3D printed parts I recon!!! Thanks for watching and please remember to subscribe
@@19mati67 You live in LA? Not many kit cars around over there. I could imagine it being a blast, we have to dream of long summer evenings as we take our cars out early on a Sunday morning in the freezing cold just to avoid traffic on the country roads.
Highly recommend TTV clutches. They are very knowledgeable and cheaper than AP equivalent. Their design seems simple and functional. I can't comment on performance yet but NMS seemed impressed
Not sure it's a cheap silvertech one. The variable heat and variable speed is useful. It's my go to tool when things are stuck, normally that and a hammer!
Looking good. Will be interested to hear how the paddle clutch feels in use. How did you centre the clutch? Looks like you just used a finger? I've always found the alignment is super critical when mating the engine and gearbox back together, especially so if the gearbox is still in the car, as if even slightly out you can't get the bell housing dowels to line up. Guess you'll cover that in the next episode!
I just used my finger for now but know it's not good enough. I think getting the alignment and rotation for the GB shaft is going to be painful. The next episode covering this will most likely include a lot of swearing!!
Diesels have come a long way, I can see why people like them. I don't think diesels sound as good though, mine ran a little bit like a diesel during that episode, sounded trash!!🤣
Engine hoist might just need bleeding air out of the pump. Open the valve and pump a few times then close the valve and it might pump fine again - mine does that sometimes if its been left a few months. Also - looks like you still have the battery connected - naughty naughty!! the wire to the starter motor often goes straight to the battery so when you take the starter out very easy to short it on the chassis (been there, done that, got the arc burns to prove it!) Good luck with the rest of the job
Thanks Dave, I'll try that. I did try giving it some more oil as it leaked while laid down on my trailer coming back from my mates. I gave it a few pumps and a chance to bleed but it didn't support the boom weight. I may have been a little late disconnecting the battery 😬 well spotted!!
