One thing I appreciate about the scene where Hondo contacts Republic is that Dooku isn't just "embarrassed" isn't even half the story. On the other side of that hologram is his master, who certainly wouldn't be pleased to see his apprentice captured by pirates of all people. Dooku isn't just embarrassed, he's terrified of Sidious.
