We bought a house in the NorCal East bay 8 years ago. It was a quaint, charming town. Over the past 8 years small shopping centers have been tore down for offices, and even our neighborhood mall is being replaced with affordable housing. When we moved it was a mostly blue color town, and now it is much more diverse with lots of Asians and tech workers from the bay area. Many small towns changed after the pandemic. People relocated. Even in crazy CA, people moved inside the state to more affordable area and it completely changed the demographics, traffic and overall look and feel of the area.
I live in Apex, and there are still several new communities and new homes available. And you’re going to run into traffic no matter where you live in Wake County. I think it’s nice being close to major highways, it’s easy to get to multiple areas quickly. You can get to the airport and downtown Raleigh in 25 minutes, and easy to get to two huge malls. 20 to 25 minutes from both Crabtree and Southpoint malls. You’re also close to Durham and Chapel Hill. They are building more and more new schools in this area as well. Such a wonderful place to live!

Two of my favorite places in Raleigh are NC Seafood at the farmers market (where it smells like the ocean, not fish) and Wandering Moose food truck. They have a pot roast sandwich that's incredible! These are the ones I miss the most since I moved away a few years ago.
Houses are sitting longer, price drops happening, new listings are lower. The drop has begun!!! Big Apple executives have sold houses and relocating back to CA. Raleigh is going to experience price declines.
Raleigh hadn't really felt the true impact of Apple yet, so I don't believe we will see home prices decline but certainly will not see the rapid increase in the RTP area that everyone was fearing.
New transplant to Raliegh and I can easily see picking Charlotte over Raleigh - IF you are 1. single ANY AGE 2. Looking for more urbanism and walkable communities. It’s crap but Charlotte public transit is like DC Metro vs the NONEXISTENT transit in the triangle . 3 . It’s slightly less sprawly.. 4. Better weather. 5. Tends to be slightly cheaper also top to bottom but that gap is closing. Charlotte you can always commute from the MUCH cheaper SC side of the burbs! Lol That said I personally love Raleigh over Charlotte and always have as a regular visitor to the state - my wife is from Cary and my Grandmother from Halifax County. But I’m 45 and married with kids lol. If you are a family man/women - Charlotte is vastly inferior. If you want decent nightlife- Charlotte is vastly superior. slightly less traffic (coming from DC both are a breeze lol but Charlotte wins that category in a route for worst traffic in NC) . It’s really dependent on person and lifestyle . I love both at different phases of life. Raleigh seems like a place I wouldn’t have liked as a 28year old bachelor, but as a 45 year old with a wife and kid ? It’s PERFECT not too much city but far from a drastic culture shock if coming from bigger cities. Plus you have a whole ‘nother mid size city 35 minutes away with better food lol! Charlotte metro is 4* smaller than where I’m from, but the City has way more actual population than DC - so you definitely feel more urban and congested - light l in Charlotte
Holly Springs is GREAT! I don't have it as underrated because it's already seen an incredible rise in popularity, so it's really moved to the "highly rated" category. The popularity has caused it's prices to rise though, but not up to the levels of Cary and Apex just yet.
What about expensive housing both homes and apartments that don't equal the value of their price? What about too much traffic? What about the lack of structural development?

I looked at this beautiful apartment complex, Novel Cary, on Henry Hill road. That’s southern luxury at its finest. I applied and will be moving into a spacious 1 bedroom with office space next month!
If they are starting to tow that must be recent. You need to be cautious in the shopping center across Edwards Mill because there are businesses there, but the office building park with the Bojangles in it across Trinity Rd historically have not enforced after 5pm. If anyone is aware of that changing, would love to know.
@@relocatingtoraleigh can confirm that the buildings behind Bojangles had huge no event parking signs out. Ended up doing street parking at wade park (free after 5p) and walked over via tunnel. Worked out well.
I have visited North Carolina a lot. The best thing about NC are the people. They call it southern hospitality. They are genuine, and put a smile on your face. Then I meet folks who are not from NC, and you can always tell. Not all of them, but definitely most of them, are not nice people. Even when they are trying to be nice. And that can turn a good place bad very quick. No matter how cheaper it is.

Agree..I used information from our local utility that they use when testifying under oath when these same concerns arise when building new lines and substations. So while it's certainly from the viewpoint of the utility, they are using the data of numerous third party studies and are held to a high standard by their regulators.
Moved here 4 years ago and made some of the rookie mistakes. Two of my biggest mistakes....1. buying the Angus Barn hype. Enjoyed the Christmas decor...the food was average and way overpriced. 2. The Pit is one of the worst BBQ places I've had in the area. Sam Jones is good. Redneck BBQ Lab at McGee's Crossroads is really good. Prime BBQ in Knightdale and Dampf Good BBQ at Philips Farm in Cary are have some of the best BBQ I've had anywhere in the country. Lastly...good tip on avoiding Capital Blvd.
So true 😂. The far left lane on 40 and 540 are for people with ticket money. Don’t go to the fair at night. DON’T GO TO THE FAIR AT NIGHT! Avoid 440 in a nice car unless you love debris and rocks hitting your car oh and a lot of construction. I think they have NASCAR tryouts there too with all of the racing and speeding 😂.
This is a fun list of rookie mistakes, and I agree. As for Q, I completely agree with Ole Time Barbecue. It's legit! Cook-Out is also a legit option if you want a cheap Barbecue fix! Another mistake is not ordering the hamburger steak junior at Char Grill. Don't just order a hamburger. Go big and enjoy the fries that come with the hamburger steak junior. Another mistake when driving north and south through downtown is assuming that speeding helps in moving through the city center. The lights are timed on both Dawson (southbound) and McDowell (northbound). You are actually rewarded for doing the speed limit because the lights are timed to move you through the center safely when driving the posted speed. As for Howling Cow (my favorite), it's a rookie mistake if you think you have to go out to the dairy research center (while really cool) when you can just go to the Tally Student Center on campus and get it there.

I live in Fayetteville and I have been to Raleigh and Charlotte numerous times and I have always loved the vibe of Raleigh over Charlotte and that could be because I know I’m not a city person and me Raleigh is just big enough to where we have city amenities, but it’s still a great place to raise a family.... honestly I could drive through Apex Holly Springs Fuquay Varina, Cary all day and just love how it feels up there one day I would love to move up there, even though I admit I’m kind of nervous too because I hear people ain’t Cary are really snobby so maybe an Apex or Holly Springs where I still have small town living but a city is not far away but I love Raleigh and suburbs
I would say Charlotte is more of a cosmopolitan city and has more to do than Raleigh. Raleigh is much more smaller and slower than Charlotte. Raleigh seems super crowded and lacks infrastructure of a large city such as Charlotte. Charlotte is more organized than Raleigh. The people in Charlotte are more welcoming than in Raleigh. Raleigh has a long way to go. Raleigh is safer than Charlotte. DTR needs a lot of work where UTC is more of an organized. The culinary seen in Charlotte is unmatched compared to Raleigh. Raleigh to me is more comparable to Knoxville, TN than Charlotte. I used to work in Charlotte while living in Raleigh. The only reason I’m leaving Raleigh is because I’m building a house on the coast.
Depends on where in California you're talking about...definitely not like the beautiful weather of LA and San Diego! But yes, lots of humidity for sure, especially this year in this heat wave.
