The main focus of this channel is on LEGO speed builds and other LEGO related content, largely of the classic sets but new sets also will appear. However, I like to make and repair stuff in general, some of these include things like vintage tube radios, classic cars, 3d printing, playing music, and various electronics so there might be some traces of those in between as well.
There are indeed some similarities, good point, and they are not far apart in time so wouldn’t be surprised if the designers took some design aspects and techniques with them jnto other lines, I feel they did that a lot around those days. I specifically recall that system crane designs(not technic), were extremely similar. Would be interesting to see who the designers/team were on the 2 lines…
This may have just been one of the best sets Lego has ever made. It was by far my favourite and now, 20 years later, it still holds a special place in my heart. I remember getting a combo set for Sinterklaas (Dutch Christmas) containing this set and two smaller ones. I was OVER THE MOON. Best present in my life!
Those are some highly unusual building techniques and exotic pieces for classic LEGO! I can't believe they brick-built the ship (using offset plates no less), I assumed it was one of those massive hull pieces. Meanwhile the DOCK is made of single purpose-made plates. Very interesting model!
Indeed, the techniques are really nice for this era, nice amount and general selection of pieces, a lot of play options as well. The large pieces do have the advantage of raising the whole thing to give that dock feeling though less usable for other purposes. wonder how this set would look after a 2024 makeover without some of the large pieces🤔
Funny thing about this set is it is pretty much an add-on pack to the cargo train of the same year. Without the train set this set is only half useful. The truck and container are made for the containers that come with the train. Luckily I own both 😅.
Indeed, I also had/have both the train and crane and then it’s a nice combo. Couldn’t this “add on” idea be applied to many train sets by the way, like additional wagons, other cranes, … without a base train set these are generally not the best sets. 🤔
Hello everyone, could you please how to convert the LEGO 7715 Push-Along Passenger Steam Train set to 9 Volts using the LEGO Trains 9V parts (5300, 5303 and 5304)? Thank you very much, Johan.
I've wanted this for ages, ever since seeing it in catalogs and pamphlets... shame it's so pricy on eBay these days. The moment I saw this set, I realized something about it that lots of people apparently haven't: You're meant to butt the platform of 4560/4561 Railway Express up against the unramped end of this.
There are a few more of such examples where sets match nicely but it wasn’t “advertised” that way let’s say. I have a ton of old folders, I’ll dig up some and see how this specific one was shown, if it’s in there at all… Also, don’t know where you are from but local ads/websites tend to be considerably cheaper than Ebay. Visiting a flea market might also work but patience will be needed…
This was the only set i was able to get as a kid for the soccer series but was still an awesome one to have even if i never was able to have the stadium as well! Seeing it after all these years brings back alor of childhood memories! Thanks for posting!!:)
Part of me feels like I want to make a collection of just this boat. I just spent $100 on a used set. I’m actually holding it in my hands right now. This has become one of my favorite Lego boats.
I get that feeling, it’s a really nice boat, fun fact: the containers actually re-appear in different sets of that era and can be made in more colours so that could also add to a nice harbour if you want to build a diorama or something with a collection of these boats.
Hi, thanks for suggesting, I do have already 1 up (7715) but working on completing some more sets in the 77xx or 78xx series but they are a bit hard to get hold of ☹️
@@BasRobin where do you live? If in America, then I understand. There are way more of these old trains available in Europe, specifically in Netherlands where they are relatively unexpensive
Wow! I remember my li'l bro had this set. It certainly makes me sad that he lost some of the pieces. So I wonder if it's possible to recreate it with the current pieces? I'm so happy to see you have it complete, safe and sound! It's just right in the nostalgia! I loved the dragon so much and the witch face is so funny. Super greets, cheers and hugs from México! 🤘😸
I’ve seen some incredible recreations of old sets with modern pieces, maybe I’ll give it a go to see what that would be for this set though the character is often also in the unique parts like the dragon in this case. Thanks for sharing and greetings from a slighty less sunny place than Mexico 😅
Jup, this floats, the boat hull is specifically 1 piece and it’s weighted for stability (the black larger bricks). You could even add a motor to it, those were sold by other brands I believe.
@@n0tiz264 I might surprise you then that 60266 (2020) also floats, the shape is very different and I suspect (not a boat expert here) but that it adds to stability. That one is giant...
Oddly enough, the 2x2 45-degree corner roof tiles in Mata red were retired in 2020 after appearing in that year's incarnation of "The Burrow" (75980). The same part in Mata green was retired the next year, but it had only appeared in seven standard sets over 21 years. Rolanda Hooch's hair in the old light gray is also exclusive to this set.
Interesting facts, thanks for sharing! I look that stuff up from time to time but the roof bits I didn't spot as they seem rather "usual" though as you point out the green one then definitely isn't... I have 1 other set that contains the green ones but I'll get around to building that one day...
I think there's some appeal to the old LEGO System set. LEGO set that comes out today is beautiful...but I have a feeling that it is well too "polished" to be made into sth else. Old Lego sets encouraged creativity. Yeah....they did give outline as to what to do, but I never felt required to stick to the given design. My cousin and I spent countless hours "redesigning" ships, houses and spaceships that were drastically different from the given design. I find it more challenging with LEGO city sets nowadays.
I get the feeling, my thoughts about that was that with the limited amount of piece types you would probably get a rough looking thing quite quickly, say a house but it will lack detail, while with all the modern detail pieces you can create stunning things but it just isn't as easy, and since there are more varietes you would probably have less of the base bricks to start with (though I didn't really do a fact based study on this...).
