Welcome! I'm Marty Gebel, owner of Modern Hipster and former Co-Host of Backroad Bounty (2014-2015), which is currently streaming on Tubi. I've been involved in the antique business my entire life and it's still my passion after 20+ years in the field.
The majority of my videos will be raw picks in peoples' homes and barns while they downsize or settle an estate. I tend to buy a LOT and often purchase and clear out entire estates.
Be sure to subscribe to my channel and share it with your friends as I'm posting new content regularly. Share in my adventures as I travel around Ontario, Canada digging through houses, barns and old buildings in search of sweet vintage treasures.
Dont' forget to follow me on my Instagram & Facebook as well!
It seems a little high but depends on how much the copper kettles weigh & you should get a big chunk of your money back from that. It was nice to see a good picking video. Hope to see more in the future!
As you walk through I just keep seeing stuff and thinking I'll take that and that and that! There's lots of good sellable stuff in there, especially if the buying price is right.
Love your videos. First time commenting. I think you're going to be ok. But the guy should have been a little fair with you. But like I said before, you are going to be OK.
You was free labour for him, once you got it all out, he could sell it easily to someone else, i think you should have been paid for the work put into sorting it, but overall, hopefully there's some profit for you, at the end of the day, let us know, cheers! Glad you wore your gloves 🦝💩
Yeah, for allegedly helping the guy out, I think he wanted too much, and he still didn't come down on his price did he, I know you're a pretty fair guy Marty and it would have been a major pain in the tookis too put it all back in that barn, hopefully you'll see a bit of profit, but I think the nice guy in you, paid too much, I for one would have been embarrassed to ask for that much money, get em next time kid.
To me, it seems a little high, but hopefully you will still make a profit. You did pretty good on the other stuff from the 1st video. You will just have to put some cleaning time into it all.
That was a great video ! So much cool stuff, I could only imagine what this guy sold already . I think you rescued some really large valuable reselling pieces . Was he fair with the smaller pieces like the smaller buckets , ice tongs and license plates ? With that said my favorite part of the video, was the Motley Crew shirt you were rocking 😀
Grease cans are a supposedly have been a hiding place for cash/coins, though I've never been lucky enough to find any. Best to wear a mask when dealing with raccoon feces because of Baylisascaris procyonis (Raccoon roundworms), which can turn into a nasty, brain easting parasitic infection. Not overly common, but better safe than sorry.
That cast iron thing almost looked like an old candy press because of the way it was painted! Wishful thinking though because it looks more like a laundry press or something :(
I loved seeing what you would find next. There was some good items but with the condition over time was it worth buying versus scrapping a lot of that stuff was my thoughts. I thought what you got for your money was a very good buy. He should make some money on scrap. It kind of boggles your mind how places are left so long but I guess its the old time vs money & time goes by fast.
Cool express sign and Kist holders! Good deal on the Pepsi machine, the sign is decent on its own. Sure those weren't signs by that gate? Prep N Etch might clean them up if they are signs. The press is a laundry mangle, and the T Eaton piece is a washing machine. You of course are having him watch for more signs patching holes? I'm finding that wood working and other quality tools are making a come back by those who actually use them, due to their superior craftmanship over the Chinese junk that is being sold today. We don't see many wooden wagon wheels anymore, mainly due to weather, so I would have grabbed what I could of of those. Saw a few other goodies here and there I would have snagged, especially at his pricing. Even some of the lower end stuff I might have piled together and made a bulk offer.
It’s sad that so much had to be tossed because they didn’t want outsiders coming to buy things. I know I’d have loved some of the shelves and book cases.
You did pretty darn good on the Toys...one thing you missed was in the plastic bag...it looked like a MARX or similar type plastic space set with figure's ... lov this stuff..
Nice little pick. The set of bells are actually off a cutter/sleigh...one of a set of two. Spotted some good farm antiques that would have gone well in my market; the hay grabber, the corn sheller, and other bits and pieces. Even horseshoes can sell well at $3- $5 each....but, can't always take it all.
Attention parents… please try and be aware that one day your children will be responsible to be rid of your possessions.. thin out as much as possible as you age… bless this young man for clearing out the hoard of 2 peoples lives mother and grandmother .. all the best to him !!
