I am from Jeju island South korea. The Jeju has the same history like Rukyu la ong long time ago. I am fully support Rykyu people.and plese do no forget where your roots come from Rukyu dynasty.
the first time i knew that japanese killed most local in ryukyu i just cant believe my ears...then i get to know how they occupied the country, how they destory ryukyu language and call it a japanese dialect, how they make it a usa army base and a japanese famous tourist attraction...i feel so so sad for them and truly wish they could find their language ans culture back and be free😢😢😢imagine someone killed your family and ask you to stop speaking your language and force you to be their slave...
Okinawa must have had a deep influence on Japan as many things look the same but being oppressed Natives they may feel a great difference by Okinawa citizens when Japan has claimed Okinawa as its own !
I wish Ryukyuans colonize us Yamato so we can regain some Jomon ancestry. Ryukyuans are better looking than us Yamato because of higher Jomon ancestry.
I have watched this video at least 5 times and every time I watch it the image of the woman at 4:40 just stays in my mind for days afterwards. You can see the tears in her eyes and her feelings of wanting to acknowledge her ancestors as well as know her culture are strongly shared. It shouldn't be controversial to say that Japan colonized the Ryukyu Islands as well as Hokkaido and the effects of colonization are still being felt to this day.
It depends. Like me, I am half-Japanese half-Filipino, I'm not Okinawan. The people in the video are Okinawans and they are completely different and unrelated to the Mainland Japanese.
Actually these people do Look different but they also behave different from Japanese people they look a little like Polynesians alsobut heir true Identidy n cu;lure? sadly they wil never get ack from Japam
First: Organizing a Ryukyu Independent Organization. Second: Save Ryukyu culture action. Save Ryukyu characters, languages, costumes, songs and dances, etc. Third: Supervisors should meet regularly to discuss how to achieve Ryukyu independence.
It even seems like the Japanese language itself is dying as it loses itself to more loanwords. But that's neither here nor there... I really hope as many of these languages can be preserved. Stamping them out in favor of standardization was just as wrong as the mainland Chinese trying to "simplify" and lose the meaning of many of their own words.
In some countries, they use "mother tongue" in written and oral communication to preserve the language or the dialect. In the Philippines for example, we use local languages (may it be regional or province-based languages or dialecfs) in schools along with the Tagalog and English languages.
same as in my country. At school they are taught the official national language and English, as well as their local language or mother tongue. In my area most native people always speak the local language, Except when they talk to outsiders they speak the official national language.
Even though this qualifies as a different language from japanese im amazed that I can still understand them! Most of the time it sounds like a different dialect to my ears, but the subtle sound changes are actually romanized differently.
Japanese probably shares a common ancestor with the language. Spanish and Portuguese are so similar you can understand both by learning only one language, and are both evolved forms of Latin language
@@saltyfloridaman7163 Due to the Japanese government's massacre and assimilation of the Ryukyu people, the true Ryukyu language has disappeared! The Ryukyu language today has a lot of Japanese, so that's why you think Ryukyu is similar to Japanese.

Exactly like the one young gal said, she wants to say the words but it just doesn’t come out of her mouth. Born and raised in Canada but listened to mom and dad speak uchinaguchi. From a very young age I’ve understood it. And yet speaking is so difficult.
I am a Maori, from Te Aotearoa (New Zealand)... I know what the damage and threatening demise of a language can do to traditional cultures and to the people. Due to my peoples struggles against the Law and Social Ignorance, the Maori language is now an official language of Te Aotearoa (New Zealand) In the struggles you face, I wish good fortune to you of Okinawa, may your struggles be small and your victories great! Nga mihi aroha nui ki a koutou. I acknowledge you all with much love.
Meiji Japan tried to destroy Korea culture by even eliminating their lineage of their King. Send to be imprisoned in Japan after Japan occupied Korea. They did that in Taiwan Island they occupied for 50 years. The Kingdom of Ryuku existed as an independent nation until they were invaded by Japan unprovoked. After a defeated Japan left the island. 200,000 Ryukun families went missing. That is genocide.
japan is different than new zeland , because all japanese people are native to japan, they have their own tribrs but on the and they are all japanese people. In newzeland white man is just occupies your land and tried to delete culture and maori language.
@@blabla-kk8bl The parallel is in the former Kingdom of Ryuku forcefully occupied and annexed by the Meiji Japan in 1879. That was before they invaded Taiwan and the surrounding islands including Daiyutai. That is why after Japan was defeated, Japan had to return Taiwan and all these islands back to China not Taiwan Province. US occupied and administer Okinawa but back in 1972 in a surprise move passed the administration to Japan. It was illegal and a planned chess game. Facts: 200,000 Ryuku families were missing after the Imperial Japanese Army withdrawn from Ryuku today you called Okinawa today. That is genocide which was very common during WW2. Hundred of headless corpses will discovered all over East and SE Asia. That is why East Asians were irated when Japanese PMs visits the Yasukuni Shrine which they purposed transferred class A warcrimes criminal there. It is an indication of Japan hidden ambition. The fire is still there. They are the real threat in Asia and NOT China.
