I can't believe how well Project Tupolev captured the look, sound and overall feel of the engineer's panel for the 154! And it's freeware!! It sounds just like this!!

Skilled engineer. There is a great document for the startup procedure for this plane in the flightgear docs, does this and all the gyro / autopilot alignments. Good read. The navigation system in this thing is actually unbelievable in a modern age of gps, had to read it a few times and I still don't understand it fully. I can see why this cockpit had a dedicated navigator in these planes, in addition to the engineer.
I imagine the design committee having this conversation.... But yuri, you say that this new plane can start up in only 7 simple steps...? Da, we have used a lot of automation in this one. Ahhh but the president wants to show the world and his country that we do it right, the Russian way.... OK, I add 3000 more redundant switches and blinkenlights to make it look great. Da yuri, you'll get a promotion for the thinking!
