That’s what most ppl are saying but it really could have been so much worse. With what the dev team was going through, I consider us lucky to have gotten this. I also, though, don’t like to look at things with a pessimistic viewpoint, so I might be biased by that.
First, congratulations on pushing the part before the Cheep-Cheep to its limits. Nice to see a TAS of Sticker Star. I have hated Sticker Star, but I have noted it is such a good game for challenges such as speedrunning, so thank you for quietly pushing the boundaries when the game otherwise would have stagnated under the well-worn, well-known talking points. If you hate a thing, hate it properly; one can’t say Sticker Star is bad for challenge runs, partially because it is all it has, partially because it gives you massive options to choose from and a semi-sandbox way to complete any worlds.
I'll always stand on the hill this is the most underrated game of all time. Gets WAY too much hate for what's a perfectly fine and serviceable game. Plus the music absolutely SLAPS!
“Most underrated” does not mean much when the game is basically correctly hated for almost everything, but I do agree in that because there are so many things to hate it for the license to hate has gone massively beyond even other things with reasons to hate them save the Star Wars fandom. That is, the intensity is far too much and uniquely oversized, but any criticisms is very likely correct.
Ok this never happened to me , is your 3ds modded ? If so you can try another edition of nsmb2 (they are the same one has all dlcs one requires you to install them) or another region if the game.
This game is extremely underrated and hated on just because it was so much different than ttyd , but honestly its a great game , sure it would have been a greater game if the map was unified and if it had pals , but the game has amazing ost (im looking at you desert theme) and it is fun from start to finish , one of my favorites definitely check color splash too , imo its even better than sticker star its on my top 3 of paper marios.
Yeah I guess what the TTYD fans want is for the games to be the same every time, and while I did enjoy TTYD just as much as the other games, I don’t want all of my Paper Mario’s to just be TTYD, and I think it’s important to acknowledge change. I believe change is what makes the games in a series unique, and it’s one of the reasons I come back to this series. If every game was like TTYD, I probably would leave the series and not come back out of boredom. That is my stance, and I will not be reiterating or revising it.
I have only played PM64, TTYD, SPM, and PMSS and honestly, I've found TTYD to be the least enjoyable of the games. I do think the remake has fixed that a little bit, but I still don't get why everyone loves TTYD so much or hates on Sticker Star like they do.
@@jasonkoch3182That's surprising. I do understand that TTYD has its problems, though. Getting coins there is not as quick as any other PM game, Crystal Stars are not as good as Star Spirits and the overworld movement is not as good as in 64 or Super. I do love the game, still, even if I can't beat it due to emulator and ROM issues.
I enjoyed Sticker Star, but I still have to acknowledge that it's a terrible game. None of its game mechanics work together cohesively, there is way too much backtracking, and the puzzles are almost always unfun. How it manages to be fun in spite of all that is a miracle.
I accidentally hit send, I have more to add. I’m just going to give some constructive advice: the toad jokes are starting to become as unoriginal as the toads themselves. I know it’s not your fault, but I hear them constantly, TASing this game for 2 months and all. Just try to switch it up once in a while is all I ask.
Wow since this video kinda blew up I suppose I’ll give context. This is meant to be an addition to a TAS that I finished a week ago, where I fought the Big Cheep Cheep at Surfshine Harbor as fast as possible (and yes, this is an actual category on speedrun.com). In that TAS, I made a few mistakes at the cheep cheep fight, costing around a second and a half. This fixes those mistakes.
I used to "speedrun" this game when I was a kid, which really just amounted to me playing the game from morning to evening a couple times. Seeing actual speedrun tactics makes me want to start playing again...
I’m gonna be honest, I wasn’t sure if you actually liked sticker star or just had the sombrero guy as your pfp because you found it on Google or something, but it’s really, really cool to see a Siiva commenter that doesn’t hate Sticker Star. I do have to recommend replays for this game, there’s a lot, and I mean a LOT, of secrets in this game that might make themselves apparent on subsequent replays. It makes exploration a lot more enjoyable, in my opinion. If you’re looking to speedrun this game, now is a good time to start. Nobody’s playing right now except for Nevu, who just got full sweep so will probably be taking a break. Also, this is just the tip of the iceberg for speedrun strats lol.
If I were to assume, "max%" in this case probably means doing everything that can be done without collecting any powerups. Some secret exits and even entire worlds can't be accessed without using a powerup. Some Star Coins probably can't be collected, either.
The thing I wish Sticker Star are enemies complex enough and tuned enough that you would need to use all of the stickers but there was never any one strategy. The fact that there is a thing to buff attack that much, two to reflect front projectiles, one to counter jumping enemies, and so much more, such as powerful jumps versus jumps to ignore spikes versus multibounce versus 100 bounces if timed correctly makes me think of a direction where Sticker Star was literally about collecting stickers in the world for unique strategies like a proper deck-building game as opposed to a point-and-click adventure handheld game.
You need at least 31 HP to survive the explosion ONLY if you pop it with a Spike Helmet. Otherwise, it deals 99 damage, which you can't get before beating it
@@Sqidzies Just wondering, any particular reason you chose Sticker Star? I enjoyed the TAS but I’m curious to know the inspiration behind this since the game is usually poorly regarded. (Not a knock against you at all)
@@SirCacto The game's reception was not a factor in making the TAS. It was my first Paper Mario game I ever played and even though I got Super Paper Mario 2 years later I've always had a soft spot for it. I've been in the speedrunning community for a while, but at that point I hadn't done anything major (I found 1 OOB clip in 2020 that was completely worthless). Sometime in late 2022, I noticed that Citra had fixed the TASing capabilities on their emulator, making TASing this game possible. I began routing the shortest category, because I knew that category could be blown completely out of the water with heavy use of a newly discovered trick, Kooll Album. On January 20th, 2023, I finished the route and began TASing. I also took HEAVY inspiration from Malleo during my TASing process. I streamed 99% of it, my layout in general was very similar to Malleo's, and I displayed info on screen in a similar way that Malleo did on his streams. I really do think Malleo is super talented, but the only reason I did this was because I thought it looked great on his streams. Something else to note: This TAS absolutely would not have happened without Koollname discovering Kooll Album. That was really the final straw for me TASing this game, and it opened so many new doors in the game, like skipping the battle spinner. This run would not have been sub 50 without Koollname, if I ever bothered to do it. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
@@Sqidzies late response but you guys are single-handedly keeping these games alive. I always have such a respect for TASsers and speedrunners because you guys are able to break the game down to its limits and really show just how far you can go.
Cool TAS! I have a few questions about it though. When you skipped the Battle Spinner tutorial battle, did that actually mean that you never unlocked it? I assumed this since it was never used. If so that's crazy haha Is it known why you can skip some of the required battles, but not others like Kamek or the Boomerang Bros? For the Kamek fight, is getting that shiny hammer from 1-1 really faster than charging one of your spare regular hammers? If so, how much time does that save? For the Big Cheep Cheep fight, when using that Boom Box-boosted shiny jump, I see that every little jump does 6 damage. A normal jump sticker starts with 14. When you finished the big shiny jump, the Cheep Cheep was left with 8 health. So wouldn't it have been faster to get a Great instead of an Excellent there? That would leave it with exactly 14 health which the normal jump does... or am I missing something?
1. Yes, that does mean the battle spinner is never unlocked. This is one of the reasons RTA runners don’t do the skip. 2. No it’s not known why exactly, but we speculate it has something to do with triggers being angled. 3. It’s faster because it takes almost a second longer to charge up to great than a nice, and the great animation is longer. You can see the great animation at 9:22 4. Yeah you are absolutely right. I was a complete idiot and missed that. Thank you for pointing this out!
We knew it would be sub 49 because I timed where Nevu was at like 3-2 vs where I was and subtracted the difference from Nevus run and that got sub 49. I’m glad you enjoyed the streams, I did a lot too! 🎺
47:53??? Damn I was expecting a sub-50 minutes but sub-48!? What a milestone! I’m glad I got to help with and even watch a couple of the livestreams making of the TAS. Can’t wait for the Any% TAS!!!
