People stop and stare, and they wonder why I hang out on your corner like a homeless guy: I don’t care if I….give off stalker vibes As I lurk on the street where you live!
This whole number and scene DOES hit different with Bobbie as a woman - suddenly it feels like Bobbie is almost looking at a mirror when she watches Joanne - like she's seeing how she herself could end up if she continues the way she has been, so jaded that even having a loving husband no longer does anything for her.
I loved the remake of this show with a female lead, but I much prefer this song when bobby is sitting there uncomfortable as he's being flirted with throughout this scene. it gives this song a darker edge which I love but Patti is so great that just listening to her sing this song is enough
I have only just discovered this singer! He is enthralling and his attention to detail superb . I love his interpretation of this beautiful song. I do hope he comes to perform in the UK soon. 🤞
I went to london to see a completely different show but this had extended so I definitely got a ticket. For 20 pounds no less because it was a rush ticket. I was so impressed with her doing all that choreography at the beginning of the second act.
He isn't even singing with an English accent, he's American. Give me Bill Shirley (who dubbed for Jeremy Brett) in the 1964 film anyday. Listen to that version.
I went to see this production in April of 2022, getting a great seat about six or seven rows back. Early in this song, Patti found me randomly in the audience and sang most of the rest of it right to me. This is something some actors do to help personalize the message they're sending and something I'd tried a few times when I was majoring in theatre back in the early '90s. We were all wearing masks in the theater at the time, but I returned her eye contact throughout the song and hopefully gave her enough of what she needed in that moment. Excellent performance from a big time Broadway performer and a lifelong memory for me.
The show won at least three Tony's Why didn't they do a cast recording? They did of the London production (I saw both) and the NYC was better than the west end production
It was an authorized recording of just this one song by the show’s social media team. They released it for publicity in the show’s final weeks on Broadway. I was amazed when they first posted it!
Right. This doesn't hold a candle to her performance in the concert version with Neil Patrick Harris that was so bitter, cynical, and dark. This version is almost comical which makes it less impactful.
