I landed here in 1977. No paved runway, just dirt area. No control tower. 1 airport worker. When a plane was coming in, it radioed ahead and the guy ran out of his shack and chased the cows off the runway. No town. Just 5 or 6 Sherpa huts. No reservations. When you were done with your trek, you just hiked in and hoped there was a plane and you could get on it. Sometimes, you had to wait a day or two. The takeoffs and landings you just held your breath. I'm sure there was a lot of praying.
