I find it humorous that they changed the lyric to "lips" and they are at a high school called "Shelter Island HS"...sheltered much? Still, fun performance.
@sgtjoe2008 she killed herself because she wanted john to adopt her child (give the child a better education etc.), but he and his wife didn't want to, so she thought if she kill herself they have to adopt her child. John and Ellen (his wife) wanted to help her with money, but she didn't know.
In certain shows there is a demand for a certain race. ie. Horse in Full Monty has to be black and its written into the contracts and therefore allowed to be advertised for without it being seen as racism. I don't think is wrtten into Miss Saigon but it is set in Vietnam so Kim would really need to be Asian or Vietnamese otherwise some of the songs would be pointless, like Bui Doi, "Half breeds from a lond that's torn". But the show is amazing so anyone who plays the part well is fine by me
i totally agree, im asian but im not thinking that certain role of certain races should only be stock in the same places, like lea salonga, she is asian but got the part of "white" in les miserables... as long as quality fits, then they should go on..
Every-time I watch any musical I never think about the race of any character, I feel the human story, the love, the tragedy, the sacrifice. I enjoy feeling the passion of the character regardless of what color their skin is. In the opera "Madam Butterfly" which is the original "Miss Saigon" their "Kim" is often played by non-Asians. So if that sort of casting is good enough for the "Met" I'm sure it should be good enough for a high school production.
