Mike Farley's Kickers Camps are dedicated to improving high school punters, kickers, holder and snappers to become "Friday Night" Kickers. Players that truly help their high school teams success in the Fall. Instruction is much more personal than national "showcase-style" camps. We're a football camp, not a scholarship camp.
The longest 'conventional' straight-ahead field goal ever made was on November 8, 1970 when the Saints' Tom Dempsey kicked a 63-yard field goal from his own 37- yard line to beat the Lions 19-17. He beat the NFL record by 7 yards (old record was 56 yards by Bert Rechichar). I don't know if any 'conventional' 'straight-ahead' kicker has kicked one longer than 56 to be in second place behind Dempsey; but there has not been ONE straight-ahead conventional kick longer than 63 yards since 1970 - a record that will NEVER be broken. Soccer-style kickers have broken the 63 yard record. I appreciate their talent and their records, but let's see them kick it straight ahead and conventional like Dempsey, Mosley, Erxleben, and Bakken. Also, Dempsey was born with HALF-A-FOOT, not a 'club' foot. The NFL had approved a shoe for his deformity the year before he kicked his 63-yarder.
I was a barefoot soccer style kicker until my teammate stepped on it and broke it during practice. After I recovered I went back to straight on from my junior high school days. I ended up kicking further and straighter than ever. However, it was a bitch to find a square toe cleat that fit properly. Good video bro.
On long-ish field goal blocks i bet coaches now tell their kickers to grab the ball if they can and punt it! ... Probably not advisable to tell others to pick it up and punt it...more likely to end up a whiff or fumble returned by other team .... seems like only a matter of time until a 55-70 yarder gets blocked and then the kicker gets it and punts it....
Is there an NFL rule that place kickers can only take 2 or 2 1/2 steps before kicking the ball? If not, then he did not cheat. Since there was no flag then he didn't "cheat".
yeah click bait indeed if they are at all serious I could care less if the dude ran for the endzone to kick that. He's a record breaker for a reason and I cant stand Baltimore but that dude is the dude 😎
@@aaronjacq4045 You shouldn't. Justin Tucker is "the dude". What watchers are getting hung up on is if he did something worth a flag. Of course he didn't. What's so amazing is that he was able to pull it off. If you don't get the ball off in under 1.5 seconds, it's likely to get blocked. What every kicker is taught is to use the same steps on every kick. Tucker figures out how to add a couple steps within the timeframe and kick the snot out of the ball for the chance to win the game. His "cheat' was both necessary and effective. Enjoy the show.
The :cheat" is that he's doing a baby kick off. To the rules, not a problem, but to kickers who have been taught to always use the same steps, it's a revelation that the best kicker in the world changed his steps to try to get the ball an insanely long distance. Only issue in the game is the added time it takes to get to the ball with the risk of getting it blocked. Thanks for watching.
So if it's legal, how is it cheating? Just because "other kickers were taught", to do something a certain way, and he did it his own way, "it's cheating"! How stupid can you get. Well I guess Dempsey was cheating when he hit the 63 yard kick because he had half a foot? The forward pass was also cheating when they first tried it, because no one else had done it before. Might as well say "it's cheating because they won the game".
"Guilty as charged" on the thumbnail... but if you're a kicker, this is important to see with your own eyes. Lots of kicking coaches get very rigid about technique, when in the end, you just need to get the ball between the posts. Thanks for clicking.
he paid for 24 likes since you commented lol. As a browns fan while it would suck Id be ok losing to a record breaking kick and by ok I wouldn't point out a step or two or even a hundred that kick 99 percent of the time is not going in he did it give the man props. I'd be on board if he cut off his leg in the off-season ands using a robotic leg now otherwise give that man his props nothing to take away from him kudos but still can't stand balti
Obviously, tongue-in-cheek... but kickers have been trained to use the same field goal steps on all kicks. When a kicker gets to the absolute max range... and they think they can get away with the added time on the kick, take an extra step or hop is the cheat. LIke a baby-kick off.
Dickson was also calm under pressure after the ball was blocked. The ball was spinning on the turf and he scooped it up one handed like a shortstop and took care of business.
You can kick the ball at any time, on any play, as long as you're inbounds and behind the line of scrimmage. It's getting annoying seeing so many announcers and sportswriters not knowing much about the sports they are involved with.
Apart from everything else, Dickson just schooled the entire NFL on how to pick up a ball on the run. Can't believe how many fumble recoveries are fumbled again... and again... and again.... just pick it up!!
What if there was an option play where the snap goes to one player he tosses it back to another who can run it or kick the punt. You know like a RB with great speed and a decent kick. I think it’d be a nice trick play but idk how legal it would be.
I was thinking the whole time that they should be able to kick again if it’s behind the line of scrimmage. Just like a QB. If he throws the ball and it’s deflected and he picks it up he can throw it as long as he never crossed the line of scrimmage.
A while back before I was in tech, I was the cable guy for a few of these chicks. Let’s just say they weren’t happy for me to see how they were living. 😂
If the blocked punt didn't cross the line of scrimmage, the offense could still try to advance it far enough for a first down. That's what Dickson was initially going to try to do, but when he saw that he couldn't make it, he had the presence of mind to re-punt the ball just before the LOS.
Ref still said "illegally kicking the ball" 😂. American pro sports refereing has gotten so bad that they don't know the basics of the game. By comparison, the NBA doesn't call fouls anymore. Maybe instead of focusing on social media and playing politics, the pro leagues should have just refocused on the fundamentals. 💯
