Shrub willows grow fast, always produce a large number of small stems, require low inputs of fertilizer or pesticides, and vigorously resprout after every harvest for more than 20 years. Dormant unrooted cuttings are planted mechanically in the spring and the first harvest occurs 3-4 years later. Weed control is critical during the first two years of growth, but after closing canopy, there is little additional maintenance required. Shrub willow can grow productively on marginal, poorly drained sites that are not suitable for row crops.
Omg I’m so sad 😞 I can’t find seeds anywhere to buy and I don’t know where to collect them I want to plant them on my homestead yo make a living willow structure
Thank you for the tips. I've done some willow crosses this spring and excited to see some capsules swelling. I was looking for tips for seed collection and seed sowing and it was nice to see your technique. From my memory, it seems like the capsules mature somewhat quickly (within a few weeks or so) and I better keep a close eye on the developing fruits so I don't lose the seeds.
