No culture or civilization has ever had such a profound influence on all later ones like the Hellenic (Greek) one, up to and including those of the present day. Rome was almost as influential, but they modeled their entire culture on that of the Hellenes. My native, US-English, language actually has more Hellenic vocabulary than Anglo-Saxon. Greek ideas, institutions and aesthetics permeate the entire modern world. Long live Hellas!
I’m a Greek American, we’re not sure how we got the Italian name Perroti/Perrotis, but we know our family originated in Kalamata. I really enjoyed this video, but I think everyone will, Greek or not. The historian/archaeologist presenting this is a lovely Greek lady. Thanks for posting this with the English translation, sadly, I never learned to speak modern Greek.❤🇬🇷
I spent 6 very happy hours in this museum and would go again in a heartbeat. What a treasure trove! As for the jewelry, it’s incredible what survives! I can’t understand why it is so hard to find replicas of ancient jewelry. Some of the most beautiful ornaments I’ve ever seen - far more beautiful than most jewelry today!
The Ancient Civiliations particularly the Greeks never cease to amaze when it comes to the craftsmanship! This looks like an incredibly inspiring museum, could get lost in it 😂
Ur Journey is a Long One, The Evil Minds Won't com'in Ur Soul as long as Keep Ur Thoughts Raised High, as long as Ur Soul does NOT Set them up In front of U, ★A RARE SENSATION TOUCHES UR BODY & SOUL... Don't hurry Ur Journey AT ALL! ★Better, If It Lasts For Years. Truly Profound Phrases.. with mellow Voice of The Late S.Connery. @@mayadobrislavova1413 Bulgarians are SLAVS. SLAVS came to the Balkan region around 600A. YOU DIDN'T EVEN EXIST IN ANCIENT TIMES. BY THE WAY, I studied history for 30 years. You better be careful what you're writing... you brainwashed ignorant.
the ancient Greeks are the Greeks - so called the noble Thracian families who remained after the invasion of the Ethiopian gypsies - the other peaceful Thracians could not defend themselves and left the islands of Samothrace and Thassos. The oldest ornaments are in the Bulgarian lands, Solomon's temple is Pliska (Bulgaria), Solomon's mines are the salt pans of Provadia (Bulgaria), Solomon's temple is the Great Basilica (Bulgaria), the priest found at the Varna treasure is Solomon, the "Greeks" rewrote history in the 2nd century benefit, but everything comes to light. Bulgaria. the most ancient country.
The industry of gold making predates ancient Egypt and is actually balkanic, as Bulgarian sites ( Varna... ) demonstrate. This excellent presentation only missed the very rich finds of Greek gold in Scythian territory near the Black sea from classical and hellenistic times, although most of the finds are to be seen in the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. A word on gold filigree, an outstanding technique, was also expected.
This video presented only artifacts being in the exact museum, not the ancient Greek golden artifacts in general which are spread in museums all over Greece and other countries. A great unique collection can be seen in Vergina (royal tombs museum) in north Greece near Thessaloniki. There you can see also many ancient silverware.
I happened to be in Athens at the time ,and visited this exhibition. It was an exploration of the Odysseus story with quotes from Homer, as well as how it influenced four 20th century Greek poets: Kavafi ,Etytis,Ritsos and Seferis. Exhibits included artifacts from Odysseus' time as well as how the later, classical Greeks retold the story. But the best part was having (on a video screen) Sean Connery recite "Ithaka" by Cavafi. !!!!!!

I visited the National Archaeological Museum in 2016, and I can't describe the feelings I had when I listened to this poem for the first time, it was one of my greatest moments of my life
I bet! A friend offered this poem to me, and it gives me a clarity of thought I definitely needed. A true gesture of friendship, and, hence, of love. Sir Sean Connery's voice is incredible, and I feel sorry for having access to the English version only. But the power of these poetic images does bring good in life. Yes, we need to have poets! Real ones!
