I have a handful of Choprae and Zebra Danios in there right now, but it's been pretty chilly the last few weeks so they aren't very active. I'd like to throw Yellow Neos in there too, but we'll see how stable the params are long term.

I'm actively trying to get new buddies for him, this little A-hole doesn't play nice with my Cories or Plecos and I'm tired of seeing the tattered fins. I moved the Danios out to a Tub this season, and I was worried with less dithers his A-hole behaviours would increase, so unfortunately to reduce stress and fin nipping on the Cories, I elected to increase the stress of my FlagFish. Maybe if he learned to play nice with others... 😜
@@evergreenpsyche from what I hear, the females are generally less aggressive than the males, though they can all be semi territorial? Part of the problem is the Flagfish was the biggest fish in the tank too, I bet if there were larger fish, or something with more attitude he would be less of a bully. 🤷
At this point, Nita, I have it not running as an undergravel, not because it didn't work, but because the undergravel tube flange that hooks into the bottom plate eventually broke, and I need to replace it. I had it running like this for over a year without issues, including a move in between, though it never sustained shrimp very well. I'll see if I can go through all the streams and edit down a video at some point, but fair warning... I hate editing videos. I don't do RU-vid so I can do "chores" it's all fun hobby for me, so until I find the joy in editing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Right now I have a Sicce shark ADV on there, and it is a transitional period with all my fish, starting the pond and everything up. Been playing a lot of musical tanks the last few weeks.
@@KoroWerks My 1st tank in over 25 years is a 20-standard with pea gravel in media bags laid flat over the UGF plates. I already had both tanks set when I saw the coco-coir pads. The 20 is doing great, but the 55 keeps spiking ammonia. The differences between the 2 tanks are thicker substrate and more driftwood in the 55. I have done 2 X 50% water changes and it's still at 0.5 ppm ammonia.
How long have you had it running? One of the things I like about "Dirted" over standard undergravel is the wide variety of bacteria and mycelium etc in the soil, some of which can survive underwater, some of which dies and becomes food for future bacteria. Cycling your "first" tank can be a real hassle, but I don't see anything wrong with using bottled bacteria if youre having an ammonia spike. I wouldn't use Prime to "solve", because that just sequesters it and the ammonia comes back later from what I understand, but eventually your bacteria SHOULD take over and you shouldn't have ammonia issues. Have you tested your tap? Sometimes tap water has ammonia in it too, and that can throw your results all off.
@@KoroWerks I am using spring water and I did test it. I am afraid to use the well water as it eats holes in galvanized steel pipe. I cycled the 20 with API Quick Start and DrTim’s Aquatics Ammonium. It went well and took about 3 weeks I used Seachem Stability and squeezes from the filters of the 20 in. the 55. It's been 4 weeks. It is well planted. There are videos on my channel of both tanks.
