in the same eschelon as frankie knuckles, alex from tokyo, levan, dj claudio cocculuto... new york btw is still very much segregated, gentrificated etc…also, the younger generation does not know, but harvey is absolutely right @ 15:30, you didn't go out in NYC or in the US or anywhere else for that matter during those times to hear a specific DJ (i would add well into the late 90s even tho DJs were becoming the focal point…particularly at raves)...., but you STILL went out to experience the sound and atmosphere of the club. DJ culture did not exist back then, and it wasn't about the dj, it was about the Club Culture or even Rave Culture. we know this because back then people communed with the music FIRST and then each other and pretty much nothing else and certainly not mobil devices because they didnt yet exist, for the masses anyway. Again 35:58, correct. Clubs are no longer known for their Name, but rather as event location for promoters. This implicitly detracts from the music.
The far out German tune is probably KRAAN, and if it isn’t I bet someone from the band will know the band. If you like this check out kraan- let it out, kraan- Andy nogger
This reminds me of when I was playing the Simple Minds on my stepfather's hi-fi and he said "who's this?" Then when I told him the name of the band, he said "they've got that right". The Idjut Boys seem like total idjuts!
My first record was a copy of Autobahn by Kraftwerk. It was in a cupboard of a house we moved into when I was 4. That shaped my love of electronic music I think. My brother and I destroyed the 7” trying to learn to scratch in about 1985. Sort of regret that now.
good interview...but fuck....the camera werk is BEYOND annoying. intentional focus/refocus. intentional realign.....so lame. I can't watch....I can only listen. the camera is BRUTAL.
The greatest musician of my lifetime. I seriously don't think anyone will release something like " Timeless " again...it was the right time...the right people that got together around Clifford Price... I deeply love Saturnz Return which sounds phenomenal today...not so much when it came out...mainly because people were into Ed Rush/Optical/Dom and the likes... His greatest achievement is his Label...I don't know what DnB will be without his Label...
This guy is full of mystical wisdom Juice!!! I'm getting only good mystica wizard vibes from him!!! learning is one thing.. wisdom is another!! this guys is not a dj!! he's an artist!!
