I took some viet Kong Jungle boots and screwed in screws that had angled heads rather than rounded heads. They worked well, but tore out after a couple of trips. I am not certain if you want a really hard carbide type screw (harder than the rock) or a softer screw? the old fashioned stream cleats I have been wearing down over the last 8 seasons after inheriting them from my dad worked really well, but they were made of aluminum which is pretty soft, and they are rectangular box style studs that run about 1 inch by 1/4 inch... They leave silver marks ion the river rocks, but man do they grab well. I've nearly worn them smooth, so I am trying to figure out another way... The strap on carbide ice soles look good, but I am afraid that since the ice is soft, and the studs are hard, i'll be scrambling. I think a softer donor metal works better in river wading applications. Which means aluminum.
Miss you, Thomas. I caught my first trout with you on this pattern. Thanks for teaching me to fish through PHWFF. Rest peacefully and tight lines my friend and veteran brother.
I live in ABQ 505 my sons friend lives by where this camper was park in a yard in SV. I always said i wanted to stop and ask if it was for sale. Then one day it was gone. i thought it was lost forever. Searching thru craigs list there it was for sale. I am the new owner of the 74 Chalet and hope to bring her back to her former glory. shes been sitting for a while still looks as good as in the video. looking forward to having many good adventures with her. THANKS
How the Heck do you deflate it.? I opened both valves and once I get to the last 8 inches or so of the roll the air will not come out. Is mine defective??
Hey Fin, Thanks for the info. I'm planning a trip to the San in late March. First trip and am trying to find info on the river, Where to fish how to get their etc. Thanks for the info.
Planted Fish, Lazy fish, Contained fish, Deceased fish, No wild trout here and payed for 12x the recycled cost of used fish. That's the only fish you will find on The San Juan River in New Mexico the dirtiest river in the west. San Juan the biggest hidden Trap for fishermen! The Pecos has clean free fighting wild trout and believe me you will know the difference!
NOT at all worth the money. They're pretty, but poorly designed and built. he jaws don't align well, and the fitment is mediocre, at best. You can spend a LOT less money and get MUCH better nippers. Do NOT waste your money.
Hello Thomas! This is Joe from So. Cal. I live 60 miles or 4 hours east of “Los” ( bad traffic, very bad traffic) anyway, I’ve fly fished for about 40 years and my wife loves New Mexico, the culture (s) beauty of the “Enchanted Land” and of course the food. We travel to N M about 3 times (most) years. My joke is, “I fish and she shops” . I’m third generation Hispanic and my wife is Caucasian and loves to cook Mexican and New Mexican style foods. Many years ago my mother taught her the basics for preparing many of my favorites and she has taken off from there. In fact, she attends cooking classes there in Santa Fe yearly. For years she has roasted Hatch Chile’s and has added them to various meals in one form or another. My suggestion is, if you use the Hatch or Chimayo Chile’s would you film a video of how you prepare and use them. Thanks, your videos are very useful for both of us. Keep them coming.
Hello Joe, I lived in S. Calif., too. When I started CalState, LA, I lived in "East Los". When I was younger, we lived in Orange Co. and again in later years. In fact, I worked at Fenwick in Westminster way back when. I have fished up and down the coast; surf, bays, islands and what ever. Then, I moved back here. There are some very nice rivers and streams here in NM and S. CO. Unfortunately, everything is closed due to the C-19 closures. When the he rivers were flowing nice; they opened up the fishing but close off the day use (parking, camping, etc.) and it got uncomfortable with the amount of people all over the place and they were closed off again. I am from here and my family dates back to the 1700's. My grandfathers had farms/ranches in Abo and in Lemitar. Right now is the start of green chile season here and the air is filled with the smell of roasted chile. Bueno, voy a cortar el rollo aqui. Saludos cordiales desde Albuquerque. Thomas.
You say you hope to get a bit more use out of these boots. Good. Thing is, these are Orvis boots, not cheap. The uppers are in perfect condition. Don't you think it's pisspoor that the soles are coming away? I've got a pair of boots from Scierra. Perhaps a bit down market from Orvis, but still not cheap. The same thing's happening to them. What's going on? My first pair of boots were the cheapest on the market. Brilliant! Sound as a pound, I wore them for years, until the uppers literally disintegrated. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for.
All in all. I was happy with the boots until this happened. I expected more. Having worked in the fishing industry, quality control was a major point in any product. My guess is that the quality or amount bonding agent holding the sole to mid-sole was skimped over hence the falty product. Anyway,... Good luck out there fishing and stay safe.
In fact, I am wearing mine right now. Easy on the feet when around the house or in a relax mode. The Prof., that I worked for, use to use his all the time.
Peña's Fin & Feather, yes i am loving mine so far. Slowing breaking them in, i ordered all the products in your video from amazon yesterday, for when it’s time for a maintenance check.
when i use the scud hooks the trout seem to swallow them, and i can never get them back without damaging the fish.. you may be on to something here.. im gonna try it. 😃
The nymph hook works best in my experience for protecting the fish and it presents the scud in it's normal swimming position, and adding a hot spot like orange or red those colors are found only on a pregnant female according to a Canadian fish biologist ( Bryan Chan ) he says trout target those scuds first . Chan said that the majority of scuds found in fish surveys stomachs are pregnant females. Scuds mate between 70 and 90 times a year so there is no shortage of females.
I have used them a couple of times since. I even repaired my wife's hiking boots before they really gave up the ghost. I highly reccomend the Marine Goop that I used, good stuff.
The bread looks great.... how long did you bake it for , what temp? Is it the same for all types of oven? Also do you put the ice in the oven in a bowl ?
I baked the bread for about 30 min., or so at 375 degrees. Now, I can tell by smell and looks - thump the bottom of the bread and if sounds nice and hollow, it is a good indicator of doneness. I use my regular home oven and I guess other ovens may be a bit different. I have an old cookie sheet on the bottom of the oven to place the ice upon.
I thought I replied yesterday but I see it didn't take. The small white thing was a piece of foam that covered the gas knobs. I like this stove and have used it a lot, even to cook when it was too hot at home.
I would like to thank Higher Ground Bluegrass for permitting me to use their great song as a sound track to my video. Here are the words to "Put My Mind At Ease". Put My Mind At Ease Felix Rodriguez, Jose Antonio Ponce, Duke Weddington, Daniel Johnsen Verse; You taught me how to be a soldier, I was proud to serve I did my time in country, saw good men die and worse But you never taught me how to come home, how to live a normal life, How to be a father, or a husband to my wife. When I went to fight your war, there was chaos, anxious fear, but when my time was up, I came home to anger, and hate filled stares. The world painted a picture of a young and vengeful man And ignored the pain and horror I saw in that freight land. Chorus; Tell my brothers I remember them, heal their wounds that can’t be seen. It’s a daily battle from anger to tears of pain, a fight to put my mind at ease. Verse; For years I walked in the shadows, couldn’t find a guiding light. Isolation gave me shelter, I kept hiding in plain sight. I’m haunted by the cries of those who never made it home, Though prayer provides some solace, I still can’t let those memories go. I soak mine overnight and then cooked on a coleman campstove, when i started my pot "reg household sized dutch oven" was almost completely full of soaked dry beans, cooked for 2 hrs and most disintegrated into soup! The soup was delicious with the cornbread but what happened? Where did all my beans go?
Maybe you cooked them a little too long. To get refried beans, you cook a little longer with fat and they can become smooth. But, they are good nonetheless.
Hello Dubai Silk Route, Mink oil is just a finish, similiar to shoe polish but doesn't have any color. It helps protect the leather a bit. It doesn't shine much but does leave the leather with a nice look.
In NM chili caribe is Different...Usually red chili. What the man in the video was making to us is pico de gallo. It's usually made with jalapenos or green chili. I guess that's the definite difference between Mexico and New Mexico cooking.
I like the idea of doing them in rings....very cool. But I thought there was too much stirring and they weren’t even a 1/4 of the dark brown color that I like to achieve. Cook them way longer and stir way less often.
