Meh once you learn a programming language if you're semi gifted at it almost all of the learning curve is in the logic of what it is that you're doing not the programming syntax. The language is irrelevant. The pseudocode is harder than the language if you're doing anything of real consequence.

I'd say run a cost analysis. How likely is this component to cause problems if I stick with a basic implementation? Likely? Spend the afternoon to over engineer it so it can fit whatever crazy requirements appear in the future. Not likely? My solution I came up with in 10 minutes will probably be enough.
