Can you remember the last time you felt great, like truly great - where autoimmune disease symptoms didn’t rule your day or make the “bad” days outnumber the good ones?
If not, you're in the right place.
Welcome to Thriving Autoimmune (formerly Thriving on Paleo)! I believe that you can make a HUGE difference in how you feel by changing your diet, lifestyle, and mindset. Please don't settle for a doctor telling you that there is nothing you can do other than take medication, as that couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. There is a LOT you can do!!!
Here you'll find recipes, tips, and strategies for making eating a gluten-free, Paleo, or AIP diet easier as well as general lifestyle (sleep, stress management, and exercise) and mindset tips about thriving with autoimmune disease and/or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (one of my own autoimmune diseases).
I would love to have you in my community! Make sure to hit that subscribe button. 💕
Unfortunately, I think it took me getting so bad to actually finally start doing something about it 🥵 For me, diet is about 75% of it & stress is the other 25%.
Love this! Great ideas! I can't tell you how many mystery meals I"ve pulled out of the freezer with the family asking "What is that?" and I'm like welp, we'll know when it's ready! OR the pasta sauce I pull from the freezer is actually chili so we get to eat chili over spaghetti noodles 😂

I am frustrated too after over 30 years of being hypothyroid. Like you no one told me to watch my diet. Now I am dealing with a lot of issues. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I'm just learning this diet and found you and it's been life changing to find your website and videos. With this recipe if i use dried lemongrass do i still have to remove the lemongrass? I can only find cut up lemon grass which i wouldn't be able to remove from the soup 😭 i can't find fresh around me
All I can say is everything you have talked about is true! My husband has been on a thyroid pill for years and was never getting better. The doctor didn't say anything about his diet. He had a leaky gut, eczema, always cold, stomach upset consistently. He had a colonoscopy and determined there wasn't anything wrong and he was told he had IBS. I knew that wasn't the answer so I looked for a doctor who specialized in stomach issues. We found a doctor who is wonderful. After an extensive blood work and stool sample, the doctor told him everything you said. Stay off gluten, processed foods, soy, seed and canola oils, nightshades, etc. and that he had Hashimoto's. We didn't know he had an autoimmune disease. That was the first time that he was told that! He was put on a strict diet and takes supplements. He is so much better. I make his gluten free bread and snacks and he is so much better. Thank you for sharing!! Getting better is very hard but it can be done.
Because of Hashimoto hypothyroidism my thyroid gland is completely gone. It atrophied. So now what? I went undiagnosed for years and years. Dislike and don’t trust doctors at all
I relate to you so much! Appreciate your honesty! This is helping me get my whole 30 started again I went off the rails I’ve been feeling yukky I don’t have all the sensitivity’s that you have but I don’t feel well after eating gluten and sugar stuffs but I’m addicted to it!😊but I do remember how great I felt on whole 30 and paleo I should do a whole 30 and eat paleo forever!
As a fire fighter and emt i was diagnosed with this yesterday and i am devastated i have to stand down in my job because of this. It has also affected my heart. So i am heart broken
It’s so sad that doctors won’t listen to us when we say something isn’t right. I’m so tired of being put on medications that do nothing for me, or being told that I look fine, or begging to have blood work done and asked why! I want it done because clearly I have to research and figure this out myself…what ever is going on within my body, is reason I’m so depressed now! It’s the reason I haven’t been able to sleep or work! It’s the reason I’m stressed about loosing my home and not being able to support my son and I! Is that not enough?!? I understand why mental illness is such a problem in society today…we are tired of fighting. Ughh! 😭 Thank you for sharing your story as it’s always nice to hear from someone who actually understands and cares. ❤
I thought that hashimotos was the cause of hypothyroidism, and a different autoimmune disease by the name of Graves disease was the cause of hyperthyroidism?
Low iodine is what gives you hashimitos. Also desiccated thyroid is better for you because it has both t3 and t4 unlike synthriod. Carnivore or Ketovore diet helps with hashi.
I just got diagnosed with Hashimoto, my TPO antibodies are over 1000. But the TG antibodies are normal. They also tested for celiac and is negative. Do I still need to avoid gluten?
I think an important take away from your story. Is that if you are not getting better within a reasonable amount of time and especially if you’re getting worse to go get yourself a second and even third opinion. Auto immune diseases are notoriously hard to diagnose sometimes even then, then it seems that a lot of doctors don’t know how to treat it appropriately. Diet makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE and so do lifestyle changes like exercise and lowered stress. I think the United States is just starting to catch up to the idea of functional medicine as being valid and in many ways much more helpful. Conventional doctors do not seem to respond well to alternative therapies no matter how well they work.
