Love them both. I put on my mothers records as a kid, Joan Baez always stayed with me. Nana is such a classy lady and performer, she loves Joan and her music.
I had the incredible opportunity and experience to hear her ar a free concert in Chicago Grant Park in 1980 and I was transcended into the nightly clouds 😊
Boring elongated hard vibrato, with the most minimal emotional phrasing, Baez that is. Mouskouri's softened inflections is more forgiving tho. Sold milions of vinyl disc tho ? Who'd of thought ?
She overplayed her hand thinking that with Levine on her side she was untouchable. After her unhinged antics as a guest performer in Boston and SF, people were asking, "The Met puts up with this?" Volpe was embarrassed that it was so widely known in opera cycles that he was a wimp who let Battle act out and walk all over him. He ultimately fired her in the most public and embarrassing way possible. With her late start, the Met got her best years.
No words for the feelings she brings out with this beautiful song. My older sister turned me on to her singing this song when she first recorded it in thec1960's. I'm fingers those same emotions right now. Thank you Buffy Sainte-marie
