I knew I was right when I felt something about K-Pop was lacking K-Pop these days. I love how you explained everything in this video. I do miss the old eras, and before someone says something like, "then stop listening to kpop", I'm only holding on because I love K-Pop, and some part of me still wants to feel what I felt back then, I hope y'all relate with me
I also noticed this recently,... because it makes me perceive a lot of pop music as boring. It might be good for listening if you want to switch off your brain but I will not sit through a MV which mainly consists of a repetive chorus 🫠 It's giving ✨️n0tHinG✨️ especially if it's nonsense
That is why Cosmic by Red Velvet and Rains In Heaven (both produced by Adrian Mckinnon) by NCT DREAM were so powerful. I also miss NCT’s choruses like TOUCH and Hello Future. Smoothie should have been a B-side, at least BOX and Unknown’s choruses had a meaning. I hope NCT DREAM’s upcoming comeback will surprise us.
I mean, BABYMONSTER with "Dream" "Like That" "Stuck in the Middle" do make a difference. Sure Batter Up and Sheesh do stick to the same easy Chorus Formular that hits the Charts to ofton. But those are fun Songs non the less. I dont really get why they actually make your thumbnail tho! There are Groups absolutely more Problematic if its about this topic!
I disagree with the premise. I think any song, as long as theyre good, are good even if they fall under the "lazy chorus" category. Also, maybe fun fact. Skrillex kinda started this style like Justin Bieber's Sorry. Maybe not exactly the same but similar-ish.
this is why i really just dont listen to kpop (as a korean living in korea). Most of the trending songs are just so meh and boring. I wont point fingers but i really dislike the songs from certain groups. They sound so dead and i dont feel any passion and emotion from them.
I can’t listen to Kpop anymore. Everything sounds so repetitive and during 2nd generation when I found out about Kpop it was amazing because they all sounded quite different and unique. I hated western music because it was repetitive and disliked the style. And now I only listen to TVXQ, they still got talent and amazing vocals. Their new music is still the best out there for me that’s new.
When I listen to music, i want story, i want drama, i want message. One of the most irritating things about trending music nowadays is that they rely too much on beats, while keeping monotonous chords throughout the whole song seeking to hammer the earworm. Or they chant the same thing over and over again.. its frustrating. They say its fun, but these producers rely too much on it to seek the “fun”. Well music as an art form still needs to be beautiful isnt it? I love vibe music, but if they were only made to be monotonous, i’d rather listen to some lofi
I watched this video and thank the lord that I'm an IU fan above all else in the industry. Igdaf about choreography when I listen to music. I want MUSIC.
I feel like it's more of a westernization problem if anything. A majority of the world speaks English and Kpop groups market well out of Korea, so it would make sense to the companies to get their writers to include more English words. A lot of Non-Korean musicians are producing songs for idols that DON'T know English and that makes them have to use simpler words. I was surprised when Antifragile came out because who the hell actually uses that word, I doubt even Yunjin knew about it.
Is this a surprise? Kpop is a company. Ez choruses are less expensive, easier to make, and fit the addictive trends with tiktok challenges and whatnot. Fans will still throw money at these ppl regardless and kpop has never been about an artist's expression lol theyre all cogs in a company with ppl behind the scenes making the music. Kpop idols are literally there to look good.
Wait isn't this the same thing that happened to "Boy bands" or "Music groups" in the US? I remember it became so noticeable that everyone meme'd the hell out of it and no one took singing groups seriously anymore. But with what you said, its possible for them to return to popularity if they jump on the "Vibe" music train.
Actually the video scratches the itch. I was a big fan of old kpop songs. Nowadays, all the songs care about streaming numbers. These songs doesn’t serve their purpose anymore for me. Sure, these kpop songs have one or two that’s catchy. But it’s just redundant and excessive.
I mean, Hard by SHINee is a full-on SeoTaiji-type hiphop song, so a vocally rich chorus would make zero sense. SHINee have always been very experimental, and vocally wise I'd say they have nothing left to prove. Also a hiphop song was convenient at the time bc the two vocal powerhouses of the group were absent.
I personally love when songs have certain structure. i have always liked the way Twice music directors arranges their music and lyrics. People dont realise how much of a work goes to get a well composed songs with all elements. Nowadays everyone is busy chasing the hype trending train that we have lost music in the middle. No doubt that to have catchy songs in this tiktom generation is a must, but that doesn't mean you should lose the lyrical beauty of a song!
I can agree with their recordings sounding flat and while I know this is an older video, I think maybe you just don’t like their style or genre? I don’t think that makes them bad but they’re an entirely different style of rock then Day6 to where I believe they’re not comparable. As someone who’s really big into the alt scene my only issue is their older songs sound a bit to manufactured but with each release they get a better grasp of the sound they’re looking for. But that’s my 2 cents. If you get the chance listen to their latest song “Night Before the End”
