Our TV's on now but it's all about the Middle East & what's going on there, depressing,& I don't want to watch the 💩that follows it,so I'm watching Alf instead.
We white brits knew the score, we knew Garnett wasn't putting out a racist message to the nation, he was intended to be the butt of the joke, he exemplified the ignorant racist attitude and it was intentional, the whole country was seeing Garnett as a racist idiot with a monkey mentality, an under educated nincompoop, the white nation wasn't laughing at his racist slurs, we were all laughing at Garnett the idiot, we more intelligent whites knew that and the more intelligent blacks knew it, the kids today share the ignorance of that 60's mob mentality, the political point ironically is aimed at today's mentality, the mob rule is learning nothing from the past!
Till death us do part, In Sickness & in Health are on That’s TV, they are heavily bleeped though. Mind so is Goodnight Sweetheart which just shows how PC it has become 🤦🏻♂️
It was great when we could speak naturally without feeling uncomfortable as it was fun between all races back then nowadays you can't say anything what's going happen to all the comics we have left bring back the seventies and eighties comedy and make people laugh again
Not only is this not banned, the bbc show TDUDP on BBC4 occasionally. Also, as Warren said, “We weren’t laughing at the ethnic minorities, we were laughing at morons like Alf.”. If you watch the show that’s bleeding obvious innit?
It was not ment to be offensive, except to poke fun at the ignorance of stereotypical home grown idiots.... All about the context and the understanding of its intent. Why people can't grasp this simple and layered fact is beyond my understanding; He is simply registering and reflecting his own ignorance and stupidity....
Everyone’s forgotten conveniently that these were actors playing roles, it what they do and are very good at. Conflating entertainment actors with deeply help views about the characters they play, is both gaslighting and naively serving others narrow minded views.
These bigotted characters were laughed at by the majority of the public. It was this airing on TV that helped those of the character type to recognise themselves and to adjust their views and to reinforce tolerance and fair mindedness in many others. Now we have the woke groups instructing the population on how they should think. I grew up with the first approach and I know which work best. You cannot tell people what their views should be, you need to show the errors of their ways.
Gone are the days when people could laugh at themselves. The Jews being then the greatest comedians of all, with the combination of Yiddish humour and limited English. The Irish always the butt of many jokes along with the Scots, Blacks, Pakistani and Indian being the recipients. The Poms TV shows of the day expressed what everyone was thinking. The woke generation of today have gone to the extreme and have caused diversity.
Strange that nowadays we are told what we should be offended by. I don't find much to be offended by, except divisive trouble makers telling me what to think, they're pretty offensive.
Of course, it's Spike Milligan dressed as the foreign gentleman. Racism is a lack of education and we are much more educated in the UK that we were in the 1970s.
Have you seen what is considered top t.v these days.. bloody reality shows which are really just soft porn with plastic surgery people thinking they are going to be the next big thing... what has happened to our brilliant sit-coms from the 60s & 70s
