Brilliant documentary. Had the pleasure of working with Dee in Firstsource many moons ago. If you read this Dee you are one of the nicest most genuine people ive ever met in my life. Its only right and proper that you should feel comfortable in your own skin and be your true genuine self. This was a great insight. Well done Dee!
The news of Stephen's passing made me so upset. I know how much he was loved. This film is a lovely tribute to him. Here’s two wee personal anecdotes about Stephen from me, who I didn’t know very well, nor did I need to, as I enjoyed all my interactions with him, his company and his take on things, and that voice!! 1.When I first met Stephen, within seconds of hearing his voice, I blurted out “Fuck! Your voice is sexy!” I remember him looking a little embarrassed with a bit of a smirk and a stoic “yer what?!” look, as again, this was my first interaction I had with him. I think I then followed up this outburst with something along the lines of “ Don’t worry, I’m very comfortable in my heterosexuality, however, I could listen to you read the Yellow Pages from start to finish” And then prob banged on about myself feeling a bit of a nomad and having an unsexy, neutral and boring English accent compared to his.. I just remember him laughing and just getting on really well from then on in. And 2. When Granny died, (Jim's Mum) obviously it was very emotional and upsetting for us all. But just to highlight something I noticed.. I think, Jim, kind of kept it together for everyone else to grieve while we were collectively saying goodbye. And when she passed, everyone was clearly distraught. Stephen arrived a few short mins after us. I remember vividly, Stephen walking in and grabbing Jim into a big bear hug. I saw my Uncle Jim (Keys)just let go. He cried and wept as Stephen held him, spoke to him & calmed him. It kind of gave me permission to get upset in a weird way.. (Which is odd cos I was balling my eyes out all the time). Then Stephen went round and spoke to all of us. My Mother, Father, brother Sister, Aunts Uncles, etc. He was encouraging & benevolent to us all. He also gave me a big hug (as he did everyone) which I really, really fucking appreciated. He sprinkled in some kind words too which I can’t remember now but that’s ok, cos at the time I heard them and they too helped..I stayed with Jim to sort out the funeral arrangements as everyone else left to get some much needed rest, food etc. I remember saying to Jim “that there, Stephen is a really good fella" and that he felt like part of the family. Jim replied something along the lines of friends are family that we choose, which I no doubt replied in some smart arse way that it sounded like a hallmark card. I remember us laughing. The way Stephen spoke to my family and my Aunts and Uncles really helped me that day.. I just wanted to say, “Thank you” to Stephen. love to Stephen's family & friends & all who loved him. I’m sorry he’s gone. He will be missed.Love from across the pond. Tommy xx
Brilliant authentic warrior of change who's work is at the core of true life in a compartmentalized upbringing , thankfully your work is a stand alone master piece of reality and mental health issues galvanizing your unique overview of how lives have been brutalised throughout the everyday fabric of society in the bogside, you are a truly inspirational artist on many many levels, love you PaL
Why do yanks try and put on that fake Irish accent when talking about Ireland?, i'm half Irish from my grandad and English and i find it cringe, even i dont do it when among real Irish, in fact if i did thered either rip the piss out of me, or rip me to shreds?, i blame hollyweird and them watching to many films?!...thered get more clout if they learned gaelic instead, but going by their education system and how its fixed this would be a very, very tall order so it would...
I miss all those Saturday nights me and my wife spent in the loving company of the friendliest crowds in Peadar's listening to the delightful Irish Music sung by these amazing musicians! Love from Anirban and Payel.
The "PUL" community will have to accept that their refusal to engage cannot be allowed to become a veto on progress for the rest of us, disappointed in the language coming from Aaron, words like "defeat" and "surrender" cannot have a place in any discussion that could result in a win for everyone.
The fact that the Roman English had a dispute with ROMAN Catholics? Nothing to do with christs message or word … for not one has read or understood Yeshuas words? That’s where Gods power is. Division is how strong holds rule u . Divide and conquer!violence on All sides. Hypocrites! This damnation is inflicted inward and outwardly. The tyrannical always winning - enabling chaos… to be ruled. 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 King James Version For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
