Why are the comments talking about scores and which gender is better? Does it really matter? I mean come on it's not like they're playing to win the Stanley Cup.
When I played men's league hockey if there was a woman who wanted to play or an older man we had an unwritten rule that they don't get hit. Neither the women or the older men who showed up had any illusions about being able to compete 1:1 with us. It was all good.
Saw a college hockey girl play in our beer league, came in hard and got leveled, )it was actually an accident). She flew like a cartoon. I actually felt bad for her, she landed awkwardly on her back/butt and temporarily lost feeling in her legs... 1st period, done... never came back. It was then i was reminded... we're two diffrrent types of human... Shame There were a couple others after her and players were told "go easy" 🙄
This is fascinating to watch. Obviously, men and women, especially after puberty, are different physically with men having a clear obvious advantage in areas of strength, size, and speed, so even grown women are going to be at a disadvantage to even 16-year-old boys. But the women's players are no joke. The only thing that makes them really different from the men is their body structure, but in terms of tactical ability and understanding the game they are really not that much different from the men. That's why you're now starting to see women become development coaches even at the NHL level. I would want Hayley Wickenheiser on my coaching staff if I were running an NHL team, and I'm glad the Leafs have employed her for as long as they have.
Reminds me of when we played floor hockey, boys vs girls, in 5th grade. We won 6-1, with the girls only goal coming from one that actually played hockey, on a breakaway. The gym teacher had to join the girls halfway through because they got almost nothing going on offense.
I'm pretty sure the Girls know they're going to lose going into the scrimmage. The purpose of the scrimmage is to play against harder competition so once they play against their own competition it feels easier. It's about finding that balance so that women's sports can get better and better.
And then they wonder why people don't want to pay to watch women's hockey..... I can watch midget AAA completely free, or BCHL for like $8....they would pump these women 30-0.
