Thanks for sharing your day! Happy (Belated) Birthday, Maggie! Totally get the meditative cleaning. It felt like such a chore when I was younger but now it's kinda nice. Hope your older pup will be alright! Your dogs look lovely! - new subscriber from the states.
I am an older man 74, I have written one non fiction book and will never write another, it is very tricky getting to know all you need to know to publish. My head is spinning.
@@bobjackson4720 it is a lot of information! I also have publishing info in book form and it’s more condensed if that appeals - the book is literally called ‘self publishing’ Good luck. It’ll be fab.
I like your personality but this was kind a hard to get into as watching you put on your makeup is super distracting. I've just discovered your channel though so have other videos to watch.
I have a Chanel lambskin square pearl bag and a Chanel handbag but my lambskin square petal bag I have worn 2 times and I am very careful but somehow still has small scratches on the leather and the gold on the clasp. I don’t know what happened but I paid over $3,000 for it a few years ago and I am upset that it already has scratches. No one notices now but I notice the price I paid for it. I’m saving up to buy another luxrul bag now that I won’t be paying full price anymore.
International bestselling author here 👋 who has worked with BookVault for a few months and received TONS of headaches from missing shipments to missing tracking to missing tax info to missing books. Their customer service is a "wait, wait, wait" nightmare of back-and-forth emails with endless denials and no solutions. They refuse to accept accountability when things go wrong and they've caused me to lose long-time readers due to their errors. Also needlessly frustrating: their home-grown software is GLITCHY AF for uploading manuscripts. I can't recommend these guys AT ALL. Save yourself the headache if you're trying to scale your paperback/hardcover business and work with a different partner. I can tell you BookVault is THE WORST. 👎👎
Just looking into this rabbit hole, thanks for the video. Opened my eyes about alot of things. Great idea about giving to libraries, had never thought of that.
Hey, this video is so eye-opening! Thanks a lot. I'm still a little confused between a self-publishing service and a vanity press? From what I gathered, you're implying that self-publishing service would give a higher quality publishing experience but what if they do market as a service but still it's not good enough? Would you say they're a vanity press then? Is the main difference just quality or something else?
@@srishtimsr I’m so glad it helped! A self publishing service is more open - they openly say they are helping authors to self publish their books. You will pay for the services you want and you will receive those. They’re not publishing your book really, they’re just doing bits of the job. A vanity press will say they are a publishing house. Sometimes they call themselves hybrid publishers. They charge you to publish with them but often don’t do a decent job, whilst selling you an idea of something bigger and better than you actually get. It’s a bit like paying to get your dog walked. A self publishing service is the guy who comes and walks your dog for you when you don’t have time. A vanity press is the guy who says he’s gonna turn your dog into the best behaved dog ever as well as walking them. He actually just lets your dog out in the garden but says he took them on a mile long walk.
@@EmmaRosenBooks Hello Emma, I'm commenting again because somehow the previous comment disappeared and is not showing (but if it shows to you, just know that I replied twice because the reply wasn't showing to me!) First of all, I'd like to thank you for such a thorough response and I now finally understand what a vanity press is. I have a feeling that I might have been "used" by a vanity press posing as a self-publishing service (a few years ago) but I've only just realized after watching your video and reading your response. Please let me know how I can reach out to you privately? I would like to share my experience in detail and confirm my suspicion. And then, maybe you can share it online to help other writers not fall into this trap like I did. I deeply value your time :) And thank you again!
Emma, Martin of London, here. Thank you ever so much for this clear, honest and detailed outlining of what Vanity Publishers do and demand - aka - ask for in their language of soft sell manipulation in income generation. I don't think you've miss a single point that impacts on authors. Also, well done on your other videos that are so plan speaking so that writers in Britain can especially relate to you.
Brilliantly clear video. I had an offer from a vanity publisher for my children’s Greek mythology series - they were all over it like a bad rash (and wanted a ridiculous amount up front) and yes it was initially super exciting. I researched them and even had a phone call with an author who had published with them and had some success. In the end I declined and so glad I did! Thank you for another super helpful video 😊
@@EmmaBennetAuthor I guess if you’re not in the industry then you don’t know what the distinctions are, and then it’s easy to get burnt when you’re new.
